Heaven and Hell (Dio Era Sabbath) First Single from New Record

I think it's the "Dio-era" that has inspired so much apathy. For the vast majority of people, Sabbath without Ozzy was just some tribute band.

But it has got me thinking of that Tenacious D song, Dio:

Dio has rocked for a long, long time,
Now it's time for him to pass the torch.
He has songs of wildebeasts and angels,
He has soared on the wings of a demon.
It's time to pass the torch,
You're too old to rock, no more rockin' for you.
We're takin' you to a home,
But we will sing a song about you.
And we will make sure that you're very well taken care of.
You'll tell us secrets that you've learned.
Your sauce will mix with ours,
And we'll make a good goulash baby.
Dio, time to go!
You must give your cape and scepter to me.
And a smaller one for KG.
Go! Go! Dio! Dio!

Fair play to them for not using the Sabbath name. They did reform as BS (with Appice on drums) about 15 years or so ago, IIRC. But with the Sabs having reunited more recently with Ozzy, I suppose Iommi and Butler realise that calling any other incarnation of the line-up, even the second most famous one, by the name 'Black Sabbath' probably just isn't going to cut it any more.

I'd go and see this line up if they toured, for the sheer nostalgia trip and just to hear the riff to Neon Knights.

If they tour? They're on (or about to begin) their SECOND tour now! I saw them on their first one last year (or was it '07?).

Sounds pretty cool. I'm one of those odd birds who prefers the Dio-era Sabbath over the Ozzy-era. For that matter, I'd also take Born Again and Eternal Idol over at least half of the Ozzy albums.

I suppose I'll probably pick this up. These days I find I don't enjoy listening to darker music that often (I had a hard time getting into the new tracks on The Dio Years for that reason, and still haven't bothered to pick up the live album from the last tour). I guess I'm just in a head space where I like something a bit more cheerful these days. Still, Iommi's the Riffmeister General and Dio hasn't lost it yet. It'll probably be worth the purchase.
