Hearing aids

I am being fitted for hearing aids later this month and would be interested in hearing from others on the Trekbbs experiences with them, or who have family members/friends who wear. Neither of my parents needed hearing aids, nor my siblings, nor my uncles or aunts.

Do you find them uncomfortable?
Do you still have problems using the phone even with hearing aids?

My main problems are understanding people on the phone, and picking out speech from background sound (which is why I prefer to have subtitles on when watching TV).

I am hard of hearing, been like that since I was 3. I've been wearing hearing aids since. I hear fine, just as long I hear people well talking. My right ear is the best ear for people to talk to me. My left ear is the bad side.

I have no trouble hearing people on the phone but sometime I ask them to speak up a bit. You know how people are on the other end, they sometimes don't speek up a bit loud and clear.

The only problem for me when my Mom or step dad is home (if they are home during the day), is background noises (including the TV if it is on). I can't hear the person on the other end when there is some background noises, including when the TV is on. So I would wait for the background noises to stop and I would. Most of time I just answer the phone.

My hearing aids are comfortable. The only time they are uncomfortable, is the ear molds after about 4 to 5 years....you would need to have new ear molds for the hearing aids by then. The way to tell that you need new ear molds for the hearing aids is when your ears get itchy or sore. Mine has already started to be a little itchy in the past year. Not sore yet (it was for a bit at one time but haven't been since).

By the way, you would have to get new hearing aids every 5 to 7 (normally 5 would be best to get new hearing aids) years.

I'm due for new hearing aids soon as I have had these current ones for almost 5 years now. I'll have to have new ear molds anyways by then so I might as well wait.

Thanks for the info, JayTheTrekker.

I am hoping that I will hear people on the phone better. At the moment I have to put the phone on speakerphone so I can use both ears to hear the caller and even then I sometimes have problems understanding.
