Heads Up To "Quantum of Solace" Movie Goers

Wanted to make an extra thread just as an attention getter.

Just a quick heads up, it might be worth calling ahead to your local cinema to see if they are showing the new Star Trek trailer in front of Bond.

Apparently many cinemas are mixing and matching what they show. So far a few reports say there wasn't a trailer for Trek or even Watchmen in front of Bond in the U.S. Luckily there seem to be several so far who did! It appears to be dependent on your local cinema or its chain. JUST a fair warning.

So the gist of it.. CALL AHEAD.

To find the local number of your cinema and showtimes.. go here:

The theater I went to in Edmonton, Canada didn't show it before my showing either. They had a teaser for Angels & Demons, 2012, and some Will Smith movie.

Or, you can just gamble and hope it's being shown at the theater... it's pretty good movie to see, even if you don't get the trailer.

That's all I got at the AMC theater in Altamonte Springs, Florida. :(

Except a lot of Trek Fans are doing this and getting pretty upset because it might not be there. What's the problem with calling ahead to find out if it's playing there? I don't think people want to spend money where they might not otherwise (though I do encourage people to stay for Bond as well just to check it out.)

^Oh, there's nothing wrong with calling ahead, I just think they would be missing a helluva movie if they based their entire trip on whether or not their theater is showing the preview.

Yeah, my theatre didn't show the Trek XI trailer. Not that I cared, as I was actually interested in seeing QoS anyway.

I got shafted as well. QoS was an ok movie, but damn if I didn't find myself fairly pissed off for the first few minutes once I saw the MGM log and realized we weren't going to see it (or the Watchmen trailer, for that matter).

I don't know how the idea came into being that the Trek trailer would somehow be "bundled" to Quantum of Solace. Totally different studios were involved, and MGM/Universal is not in the habit of promoting competitor's products.

From what I can tell, the official word was merely that the Trek trailer and the Bond film would premiere the same day, and that because of this, there was a good chance that many theatre owners would just happen to run the Trek preview along with all the other general block of "coming attractions" shown before the Bond film. Not a promise, or a done deal, but merely the suggestion that circumstances made it a likely possibility in any good sized multiplex.

That said, see both even if you have to see them separately. The Star Trek trailer is... glorious, and QoS is a damn fine action/adventure film. Easily worth the cash even w/o the Trek trailer.

^Actually, a month or two back, there was a news article that specifically said that the trailer would premier with QoS. However, I think different theaters get different preview bundles/ show more previews than others. I recall we had to go through the same thing when the first preview came out a year ago.

That's what we got too, here in Albuquerque.. I was pissed, too.. Damn good thing Quantum of Solace was a great movie, or the evening really would have sucked...

Quantum of Solace: Well I give the movie an "F" for being the worst Bond script ever written and ever directed, but at least the Star Trek XI (2009) trailer gets an "A" from me. The Watchmen trailer was included too. :)

Thumbs up for the inclusion of Zoe Saldana's white bra! :techman:

Same here. I thought about calling the theater, but I just can't do it. It's too embarrassing.

Yes, I've been dreading making that call. "We got a live one here!!" Maybe I should make the call and go for complete broke and ask if it's consistant with "canon". The smart Vegas money says they'd just hang up
and get back to buttering popcorn with that yellow grease that causes lung disease for the plant workers who manufacture it. "mmmmm.....lung disease....."

They showed it with our Bond showing. I went with the husband (who is the Bond fan, I'd watch it on TV after it had been out for a while had it been up to me,) and to my delighted surprise, ours was one of the theaters that DID show it, in fact, they showed it as the first trailer offered.

Which theater did you go to? I went to Century Rio 24, no Trek or Angels and Demons or Watchmen. I thought QoS was good, not great, so I didn't feel too bad.

Maybe Bond's take for the weekend would have been < $100 less without Trek fans... In other words, heck yes. I don't think Trek had anything whatsoever to do with it.

I liked QoS, thought it was a good tight movie, although now that Bonds revenge for Vespers death has been satisfied and he knows who killed her we can get back to the Bond themes of the past: somewhat grandiose schemes, subtle humor and an overall more suave and sophisticated Bond. This isnt the frackin James Bourne movies!
As for the trailer, I was dissapointed I didnt see a Star Trek trailer. Perhaps it was because Trek is from Paramount and this is from MGM/UA? Either way, from what Im seeing of the new Trek film, Im glad as a Bond fan Im getting good compensation.
