Head (1968) (The Monkees' first film)

It was, and a more classic example of 60s WTF drug-induced writing would be hard to find. Maybe Zardoz.

It's an experience; kind of an interesting mess once but I've never bothered to see it again. Teri Garr had a bit part and years later on Letterman she said that the Monkees wanted to make a sequel just to they could use the tagline "From the people who gave you Head..."

Yeah, Bob Rafelson (IIRC) has said that they called the movie Head in the first place so that they could advertise the next movie they made with the tagline, "From the people who gave you head..." (But then nobody saw Head, so they changed their minds when it came to the next film they produced: Easy Rider).

It's on the BBS Story Box Set, which I picked up for a song on Blu-Ray a few months ago, but I haven't watched more than the special features yet. It looks pretty incoherent (as one of the Monkees said at a recent concert: "We're going to be projecting images from Head; if you haven't seen it, they won't make any sense, and if you have seen it, they won't make any sense, either.").

I like a lot of it, but it is a bit of a mess. Co-written by Jack Nicholson. Loved the Monkee's TV show. Funny stuff, especially the first season.

"The Porpoise Song" and the live version of "Circle Sky" by Nesmith (both early in the film) are great as is "As We Go Along." But the movie itself is a mess and only worth seeing for those three songs, if at all.

It's one of my favorite films for being a unique, stream-of-consciousness cinematic experience.

I suppose they had to get the exhaustion from their sudden and initial fame out of their systems.

I saw it for the first time last year. It's like a psychedelic version of 'Hard Days Night' or 'Help'
