What has ELVIS done for you today? -are you in a better mood for having listened to some of his music or are you sad that he isn't around?

Personally... I'm rather happy that he didn't end up like some of the walking stiffs that continued their careers way beyond their talent -even if it means we don't have him around any more.

The '68 Comeback Special

My mum's probably having a blast today; dad invited her for an evening of ELVIS!
Apparently one of the better ELVIS imitators gives a concert downtown today -and the arrangement includes a special ELVIS meal (wonder if they're getting butter-fried peanut-butter and banana sandwiches ;) )

Do you also have someone close to you loving ELVIS?

yeah, my aunt that died in '87 loved elvis. had a whole bunch of those velvet posters, and like 15 elvis decanters (how delightfully white trash)

He's dead? I thought he hid out on some ranch in Montana?

I was never into his music...but heard alot of it growing up...plus seeing his movies.

Nah, he's on an uncharted Pacific island with JFK, Marilyn Monroe and Michael Jackson.

I've seen a fair number of Elvis movies on TCM and have a decent appreciation for him.

He seems like he was a real gentleman - at least in his early to mid career.

My Mom was a huge fan of his. Every year during his Birthday and the day he died she'd play his music pretty much nonstop. One of my earliest memories is the day he died. She had the t.v. on all the stations talking about it. When she wasn't watching news stories and specials about him she was playing his music.
I of course became a pretty big fan of his myself. I wish he'd lived longer.

Burning Love is the one song I'll always listen to. Kind of a latter-day hit for him. It's all good though, he is the King of Rock 'n' Roll after all.

Without Elvis & the Beatles, rock would've been a lot different, I think.

Anybody ever see Bubba Ho-Tep? Bruce Campbell as "Elvis" is hilarious.

He was born January 8? Didn't know that. My grandma (who died 18 years ago, and I still miss) would have been 84 today. Didn't know they shared a birthday. My mom was a fan, you'd think she would have mentioned that her idol and her mom was born the same day.

My mum's birthday is the 10'th - she'd never let me forget the 8'th or the 10'th :rommie: :rommie: :rommie:
