For the sake of the confused this episode iss an adaptation of the DWM comic strip story (by its original author Gareth Roberts) "The Lodger", in which the TARDIS accidently jumps forward a week in time and the Doctor has to hang around waiting for it to arrive. In the original story he lived with Mickey, so presumably in this one he lives with Corden's character.

Hm, last time we got that "waiting for the TARDIS" thing, it was Revenge Of The Cybermen. And the time before that it was The Space Museum.

Here's hoping for third time lucky!

ive just read that, I thought it was good, but should it not be with Rory instead Cordens character

I really like the idea that he'd still wear the tweed jacket along with the football gear... :)

It's probably as well that the TARDIS jumped forward a week. Big and all as it is, you probably still couldn't fit James Corden in it.

I read "The Lodger" when it was posted to Scans Daily back in the day. It was a wonderful little story -- very happy to see it adapted for Series Five! :)

Oh not James bloody Corden.

Really wish they wouldn't keep wheeling on these irritating BBC3-belonging "comedians"/"actors". Still, at least he's not going to be the Doctor now.

I cross my heart and pray that this episode, somehow, does NOT involve aliens working to destroy the Earth. It would be a terribly refreshing change. I could even stomach the legs. :)

I'd avoid reading the original story then if I were you...

You mean episode 11 consists of the Doctor living with a fat idiot for a week? On present day Earth? The amount of possibilities the Doctor Who concept offers, and we get this? I'm probably speaking too soon, and there's a lot more to it. Mind you, previous series' Episode 11s have included Boom Town and Fear Her...

I love it! I had no idea they were adapting that story - it's one of my all-time favorites. I wonder if that means this is a companion-lite episode? Could have implications as to whether a Doctor-lite episode is indeed in the cards for Series 5.

That soccer - sorry, football - scene will probably get more people ticked off, sadly. Anytime the Doctor is shown doing something normal it seems to make some folks uptight. Oh well - looks like it could be a fun episode.

Once again this seems to only be an issue with UK viewers. No one outside the UK has any idea who this guy is. It's probably why we took to Catherine Tate faster than British viewers and when Michelle Ryan was cast people over here groaned "Oh no not the Bionic Woman" while in the UK people groaned "Oh no not whatserface from Eastenders!"

All the more reason why I'm happy they chose an utter unknown to play the new Doctor. Can you imagine the oinking and groinking had, well, James Corden been cast? ;)

If you've ever actually read "The Lodger," you might find that it's actually a good, worthwhile story.

it is a very short story and one thing that I question is, that whilst Mickey knew the 10th Doctor, this does not seem to be the case with Cordens character, I assume the episode will expand up on the strip.

I've never actually heard of James Corden until today, but, looking at his wikipedia page his face seems familiar, so I assume he's been in an advert or two as well as his listed credits.
