HD remake of Sonic 1 released

The music is from Hill Top Zone, but the zone itself is an odd mix of the Emerald Hill and Green Hill Zones.

Cool. They're either going to be rich or financially ruined for life soon. :)

Fixed that for you. ;)

I can kind of see Square's angle on the Chrono Resurrection thing. It's a bit of a gamble to just let fans remake one of your games. You could be nice and grant them a license, but then that's competition if you ever want to remake that game yourself. And even if Square let them continue and struck a distribution deal, that means Square would have to invest QA and marketing resources. Cheaper than developing in-house but still a financial issue.

But each company is going to handle things differently. Hopefully, this one goes like the Unreal Engine remake of Duke Nukem 3D and gets the blessing of the rights holders. The Duke remake has the advantage of helping publicize the upcoming Duke Nukem Forever. So, if there is a new Sonic game in the works, these guys might get lucky...

the only thing i don't like is the way that person plays. i thought the idea was to destroy all the mechs and collect as many rings as possible...

that's how i always played Sonic...

I think the other thing that really pisses people off about Chrono Resurrection is the fact that Square seems about as far away from the prospect of remaking Chrono Trigger as a company can be. When asked (for the millionth time, granted) about the idea last year, one of the head honchos said something rather condescending about how 'he had no idea people wanted that game remade, because if they did, they would have bought the DS port', or something.

They probably just blew through it for the sake of the demo video.

Yeah, if you don't like their style, then have fun with the demo in your own personal way. I, for one, often tend to spend a decent amount of time on levels, despite the whole 'speed' premise the franchise is modeled after.

I don't go after every mech, though.

Exactly.

Anyway, I lurve the pretty graphics. But for such fans, you'd think they'd be better players. Either go all-out for speed, or play a collecting game. There was no style behind their gameplay.

All-out banzai'ing through the levels in Sonic2 was awesome. I loved the fact you could just about outpace the scrolling speed of the game on some levels. Brilliant fun. :mallory:

Hey, I bought the DS port!

I'd take a remake of the original (or Chrono Cross) or a sequel/prequel. I don't care, just give me more of that universe!

Anyway, according to this site more people bought the DS port than bought the DS remake of FFIV. 790K isn't bad at all. If they spent a couple mil on a remake or a sequel they'd make their money back and then some pretty quickly.

Square's being a buncha bastards, as usual. :p

Looks slower than I remember it...

Also, shame on you people for saying Tails didn't serve a purpose. He paved the way for co-op. Plus he was invincible.

Tails kept getting me killed. I go to jump on Robotnik over a pit of death, Tails hits him first turning him invincible, and then I fall through his body to my death. That happened way too many times to count.

Wow. That is absolutely stunning for a fan made effort.

The developers who made Sonic 4 should have taken a few lessons from these guys. I don't know how they managed to screw up the basic physics in Sonic 4 so badly, but they did which made the game worthless to me.
