HBO's "Westworld", starring Anthony Hopkins/produced by J.J. Abrams

^George RR Martin did propose a WestrosWorld idea to westworld producers. While the crossover is not impossible, since both shows are on HBO, it is very unlikely.

StarTrekWorld would be popular too. But so far they seem to be going for more historical stuff. I believe the producers have ruled out RomanWorld and medievalWorld that appeard in the original WW movie.

It takes a very special kind of person who likes to see other people die.

I do amateur theater, and once I played in a scene where my partner (a really good actor) had to beg for his life. I had to ask to stop because it had upset me (and I knew it was all fake.).

I know that 1 in 5 CEOs are psychopaths, but really, how the heck you can advert the park as a place for family holidays, if your major clients are potential serial killers?

Wealthy and powerful people are responsible for an enormous number of deaths.

Yes, very rare. Video games cannot be compared to reality.

Sure. Look at how upsetting it is for many people to see characters die in TV and movies.

And even if that's true, psychopathic doesn't equate to unrestrained rape and murder.

That's odd. You'd think a Ren Faire World would be among the most popular.

Okay, so this season we've seen two secret facilities in the Delos parks that are staffed by these faceless "drone Hosts."

The existence of at least one facility was known to Charlotte - and therefore, by implication, to the upper management of Delos - but not to Bernard.

The second was not only producing control units but was the site of - apparently - the decades-long attempt to reincarnate the elder Delos in a Host body. A project that William/MiB was directly responsible for and monitored regularly. He didn't just visit the park on "vacation," but probably came and went frequently for purely business purposes.

This raises a lot of questions, the first of which is: how involved was Ford in all of this "immortality" research and how much did he know about it? How closely did he and the MiB work together and cooperate on these projects over time? It's really hard to imagine that anything was being built in or around the park without Ford's knowledge, especially anything involving the use of his technologies.

So, to what purpose? The whole thing raises a lot of other questions about Charlotte's assignment to smuggle all of that data out of the park.

You're still talking about a tiny fraction of people. People on vacation at an expensive resort are the very definition of people with their bellies full. The vast majority of people think that paintball is ridiculous, let alone a rape-and-killing spree.

I wouldn't put paintball anywhere near on the same spectrum, unless you're out on the streets shooting paintballs at unwilling targets. Violence is like sex, it's totally okay when it's completely consensual.

When I was in 4th grade there was an incident where almost the entire class started beating on one kid. Afterward, a bunch of them looked back and knew it was wrong and wondered why they did it. Why did they do it? Cause everyone else was doing it. They replaced their own morality with that of the group. Same with most schoolyard bullying. Kids who individually would be nice to the unpopular kid see everyone else ganging up on him and join in. Also saw groupthink in action personally at Woodstock 99.

Never underestimate the destructive power of groupthink. It may not be as visible whereabouts most of us probably live in present day. But then you see how women are treated in countries like Saudi Arabia. If you think immigrants are treated badly in America, watch the news in Europe. Do you think all the people who practiced slavery are that fundamentally different in their basic moral outlook than people who live today? Only difference we are no longer part of a big group who acts like it's okay. Same principle would apply if you went on vacation and saw everyone around you raping and killing robots.

And, would you really feel safe wearing a sports jersey of a team that is hated by the large group of drunken sports fans you are walking among? But, if you came across a single member of that crowd the next day, alone and sober, would you feel nearly as threatened?

I agree, alone applying their individual morality, most people are good people. Just don't underestimate how awful people can do when placed in a big group of people who seem to be okay with awful things.

Visit Fantasy World! Live your inner child's dream! Rape and/or kill a fairy or an elf!
Poor Tinkerbell. :(

That's my point. If paintball is ridiculous, how ridiculous would something like Westworld be? Most people couldn't be bothered with it, while others would be shocked! and outraged! and say so endlessly on the Internet.

But, again, you're not talking about people being swept up by an event or people living with the assumptions of thousands of years of cultural inertia, you're talking about a business model for an incredibly expensive vacation resort where enough people are eager to pay big bucks for this experience to keep it going constantly, all year around.

Try to imagine what the scandal would be if they discovered that a CEO loved spending his free time in this way.

Do you remember what happened when they published the story about Max Mosley (the ex-president of FIA) who was involved in an absolutely consensual BDSM orgy?

Try to imagine an undercover journalist: "EXCLUSIVE! THE CEO OF XYZ TECHNOLOGY LOVES TO KILL AND RAPE LIFE-LIKE ROBOTS!"

So...if William was conducting experiments - that Ford knew about - to create "Human Hosts" right there in the park...what was William's "greatest mistake" that he seems determined to rectify? Is it to destroy whatever data collection that Delos was doing? Charlotte's trying to get that info safely off the island at the beheist of the folks running Delos, so is William at loggerheads with other folks in charge?

Yep. So what?

I take it you're expecting this civilization to become more...civil, with the wealthy having less license to exploit their advantages and disregard the sensibilities of the middle classes in the next 30 to 50 years rather than less so.

Let me know how that works out.

Obviously I can't know how civilization will evolve in thirty years. But I sincerely doubt that a white CEO will have a free pass on raping a black woman after he had killed her child in front her eyes (even if she's an android). This is not about to be "civil". It's about losing your black clients (and the decent ones).

Either way, you do know that they're making a story point of the privacy regarding what goes on there...right?

I'm really curious how they can enforce perfect privacy in a workplace where at least hundreds of people are working and it's visited by I-don't-know-how-many families. Or from former guests that are simply horrified from what they saw.

Based on what we know, it is unlikely that William, Hale, or any of the other members of the Delos board are/were aware that Ford knew about their data/DNA mining operation and the "James Delos project".

As far as what William's "greatest mistake" is, it's pretty clearly the "James Delos project" itself, if not both it and the data/DNA mining operation, based on the very last conversation he has with Host!James (which took place within 6 months of the present-day events of Season 2, likely prior to William beginning his quest for The Maze).

So Delos son died because he couldn't deal with what, exactly? Running the business?

Delos daughter /William's wife killed herself because she couldn't handle what?

Or are both Delos kids dead because they could not handle the death of their father? Delos was not egalitarian paragon of virtue. What made him so special?

Was the idea to transfer human consciousness into a host body his? Was it primarily an attempt prolong his own life?

The data that has been smuggled out of the park, that was the DNA and thoughts/experiences of park guests?

Now, see, I suspected the ulterior motives of the board /shareholders was the creation of super soldiers /spies /armies or police robots. Might have to rethink that.

Loved tonight's Shogun World episode.

I especially liked Shogun World's adaptation of the Hector/Armistice saloon heist, with the same great Rolling Stones Paint it Black score.

Sizemore was very entertaining with his commentaries.

Maeve's Jedi mind tricks are getting stronger.

Poor Teddy. I wonder what enhancements he is getting.

Sylvester: Say something to them (referring to the Japanese hosts)
Felix: I am from Hong Kong, asshole.
