HBO's True Blood-S3 Ep1: Bad Blood

Now that was an excellent beginning and set up for the season. I adore Jessica. She's a child who's not getting her needs met. No way she'd have killed that guy if she had any adult attention. The queen I could do without. Evan Rachel Wood over plays the part IMO. I'm intrigued to see what the deal is with Sam's birth family, and what's up with the lycanthropes. Loved Sam's dream. I like Tara, and sympathize with what's happened to her, but damn that is one violent girl. Her going off on Sookie like that and knocking her down wasn't cool. Pam rules. Lafayette rules.

This was my first episode of True Blood. I haven't had HBO in years, but finally re-subscribed a few months ago. It was...interesting, to say the least. I'll probably check it out again next week, just for the heck of it.

Sorry, they'd be way too far out of their depth, they wouldn't know what to do. And your question assumes there's just vamps there, but Sam and Dean hunt all sorts of other beings/things in the night. And only a few of those supes have been shown so far (vamps, maenad,shifter, and now Weres), that's only scratching the surface.

Right, I'm aware there are other supernatural beings out there on the show. I'm just saying, since the vamps came out of the closet and are out and about in society. Would the Winchesters take the side of the Fellowship and hunt all vamps. Or just kind of do they're own thing, like they have been and hunt only the bad ones, like say Lorena or to a lesser extent Eric or The Queen of Louisiana, since they're kind of in the grey area. I'm probably just answering my own question here, but want to know what others think.

Now I'm curious on what Buffy/Angel-verse, Supernatural, True Blood crossover extravaganza would be like.

funny I hated Jessica in the first season, I thought she was gonna be one of those annyoing teen characters thats used to appeal to a younger audience but I loved her in the second season(& her relationship with Hoyt who I also like.) Im glad that she doesnt have an antagonistic relationship with Sookie(I was afraid theyd do that.) Also she's sooo cute, I almost think Id go gay for her, lol.

OTOH, Ive hated Tara since the beggining & that sure hasnt changed!

Sam. He's got the better body and he's taller. The Winchesters would hunt the vamps, but not with the Fellowship of the Sun numb nuts. Winchesters don't favor religioius fanatics. I suspect Eric and the Winchester brothers wouldn't be natural allies.

We already know the Winchester boys would let them slide if they were proven to be "good." The fact that they've come out to the public, have Tru Blood to rely on, and that several of them are making a legitimate effort to be "good" would throw them for a major loop. But if they learned that some weren't playing nice-nice, they'd have no problem hunting them down. Which they shouldn't/wouldn't need to do, since that would be the job of the police now that they're aware of them.

The whole point of hunters in Supernatural is that the public doesn't know about the paranormal. They basically have to police the world in secret. And in True Blood's universe, that means they'd be focused on the creatures that haven't come out of the closet yet. Vamps would largely be left for the cops to deal with unless they directly got in their way.

The big problem is that the two universes really aren't compatible. True Blood is far too comical and handwavy.

True, that. The vampires in Supernatural can walk around during the day. You have to behead them to kill them. Sam embraced Lenore when she committed to not killing humans, if only to keep humans from hunting vamps, who're endangered in the SPN world.

Yes, absolutely. The first season is kinda shaky, but has flashes of greatness. But once Season Two comes along, it starts to turn into a very excellent show. Supernatural's fourth season is one of my favorite seasons of any show.

Supernatural is awesome. You should watch it. It's just incredibly awesome.

The whole point of hunters in Supernatural is that the public doesn't know about the paranormal. They basically have to police the world in secret. And in True Blood's universe, that means they'd be focused on the creatures that haven't come out of the closet yet. Vamps would largely be left for the cops to deal with unless they directly got in their way.

The point of hunters isn't to police the supernatural, but to get vicarious revenge by killing stuff. Generally, most hunters don't care if what they kill is good or evil, dangerous or benevolent, they just kill it because it isn't human. Bobby, the brothers, Ellen, Rufus, and the like are the exceptions. And even then they have some skewed perspectives.
The show even points this out on occasion.

The brothers probably would ignore the mainstreaming vamps, but plenty of other hunters would not.


Anyway, I wonder how the True Blood characters would react to a teddy bear that's big, real, and can talk but is ouch in the head sad.

A great show? ummm..no. A decently entertaining one? Most certainly.

It could have been a great show but there were so many things working against it namely the CW and its limited budget for the show. The writers were limited with production values and location shoots. Being on the CW, SN tends to skew in terms of its victims and guest stars toward the young girl. So you don't see a lot of middle-aged actors unfortunately.

Also holding it back from greatness is the fact it is far too uneven. Some seasons are all over the map and the quality from one season to the next is erratic.

In season one the show was mostly standalones with an overarching thread running through it but the episodes were still very entertaining. As the series goes on the standalones aren't nearly as solid as they were in the first season owing a great deal to the fact that the supernatural plots are stale with a lot of formulaic action and jeopardy devoid of any real tension. When they do their mythology stories the series is at its most brilliant.

Another fault I had with the series as it continued through the years was an increase in fluffy comedy episodes that clashed horribly in my opinion with the serious drama it wanted to be.

But it is worth watching because in comparison to a lot of stuff out there it is alright--it was better than V, Flash Forward, SGU, Caprica, post season 2 Heroes and if you enjoy True Blood then you should enjoy SN since in my opinion SN is a lot better show.
