HBO can't handle Preacher!

HBO Buries Preacher.

This from the people who brought us the wonderful world of Oz?

"We were budgeting and everything and it was getting really close to going," he told the site. "But the new head of HBO felt it was just too dark and too violent and too controversial. Which, of course, is kind of the point."

Either HBO is going soft on us, or that's just an excuse from someone bitter about his show getting axed...?

I dunno, the main character sets out on a mission to kill God. That's pretty potentially controversial.

HBO running scared because of the fundies? I thought their audience was made up of degenerate chardonnay-swilling liberal athiests.

Now I'm disappointed that we'll never see Odin Quincannon's "girlfriend" realized onscreen.

Wait, I guess that should be relief.

Preacher? Was that show based on the DC comic of the same name?

That was one twisted comic.

I don't get HBO so I have no clue.

Might've been interesting then again the source material is too judeo-christian for my taste.

I would have been shocked if this DID get made. All of the great niche genre projects always end up burning out no matter how "official" it sounds *coughs*Babylon5*coughs*. Oh well. It's one of my all time favorite comics.

That comes later. For the first half he's just looking for god to kick the shit out of him until he takes responsibility for his creation which he abandoned some time ago. It's like the parent trap in most regards if the deadbeat dad never paid child support and Haley Mills was morally scarred from having no paternal role model.

It's not till god eats one of his eye balls falling out of an airplane riding a nuke bareback that Jessie starts talking about final solutions.

I've just discovered Collector where the devil is cashing in on his faustian deals each week up in Canada which if I squint might have had some overlap with Joan of Arcadia which is an interesting parallel since both shows cast a different actor for the devil and god respectively each week, I adored the short run of Brimstone and Reaper is just the bee's knees and what pray tell is funnier than God the Devil and bob?

HBO is a pussy.

The more you have the more afraid you have to lose what you have.

HBO doesn't need to take chances anymore when they can just sit back and sell Soprano DVDs from now till Dooms day and stay in the black.

I was looking forward to this. Very disappointed in HBO, I thought that this would be ideal for them. Obviously taking risks these days is thing of the past. Shame, they should remember what made them so successful to begin with.

Some comics aren't meant to be be converted for television. Live-action Preacher was a ridiculous idea to begin with imo - I mean, what's the point??
[I'm asking myself that question with many comic adaptions though...]

Too reach an audience that normally doesn't read comics.

Well this is a pisser! I've been looking forward to this ever since Sopranos ended. I hope someone else picks it up.

Yeah, but it's such a different medium. If they made an animated cartoon out of it, I'd understand, but otherwise it just seems out of place. I mean, that's not some clean, friendly superhero - it's the fucking Preacher. ;)

Oh no! The writer/director of such cinematic masterpieces as Daredevil and Ghost Rider can't make a Preacher series.

However shall I cope with this?
