Hawaii Five-O: 1x03 "Malama Ka Anna" - Discussion and Spoilers

I wish they wouldn't put Ms. Park in skimpy clothes so much. I'm not opposed to seeing female flesh, but the way they're going about it feels rather sexist and disrespectful. And from a shallower point of view, the more I look at her physique, the less enamored I am by it. The poor girl needs to eat something! She's too scrawny!

LOL. I was laughing at the end when I saw her eating something. I doubt she eats anything at all, let alone unhealthy food.

It's possible she's one of those women who, not matter how much or what they eat, can't put on weight. My Sister and Law is very much that type of person. She eats quite a bit, doesn't hold back and certainly isn't under-eating to maintain a slim size she wants to gain weight. She just can't.

All valid points, but we're missing the truly important issue here... Who's driving what?

In the Pilot, Danno was driving a grey Mustang, in last week's ep McGarrett was driving a silver Camaro, and this week Danno was driving it!
The only ride I'm straight on is Chin's Harley!

As I predicted last week upon seeing GM as the official sponser with Hawaiin Airlines the Mustang is history. It looks like the Camero is a state car.

Yes, they are police; Chin Ho said as much to his cousin, and Danno said as much to the lady at the concession stand. Not to mention that McGarrett was able to administer Kono's oath as a new graduate of the Police Academy, something he couldn't do unless he were a police officer. They're a state police unit rather than local police, but they're still police.

And it doesn't matter how much authority the governor gives them, they'd still have to follow proper evidence handling and other procedures if they had any hope of getting convictions in a court of law. The protection against illegal search and seizure is a constitutional right, not a local statute; no state governor could have the authority to subvert the Constitution of the United States, and any governor who tried would be facing impeachment once it came out.

From another thread...

Since when is it stupid for a work of fiction to fictionalize something? Real crime scene investigators don't interview suspects or carry guns, but the CSI characters do because it's more dramatically effective that way. Not because the creators are stupid, but because they made a deliberate creative choice to diverge from reality for the sake of telling a story. It's no different from an SF show diverging from reality by pretending that faster-than-light travel is practical.

I agree with you in terms of torture, because it's against my politics, however, this isn't a "realistic" crime drama.

AND one could argue they had probable cause because they saw a suspicious package being handed to him and he is a known associate of a gang member.

^Oh come on, you just know we are going to get the big exoneration episode out of that. probably involve santa claus and all the reindeer loving him

Oh give the poor girl a break, she just spent 4 years in a rag tag fleet! :P

As for not following proper police procedure, I hope the show will spend at least some time either addressing it or facing the consequences. Even if its just the police chief telling them, "Guys, cut the violence. Keep up the good work! *winks*". Personally, I'ld prefer if they get investigated.

I'm sure they'll do an episode where the Governor gets pissed off at them big time. Cops shows always do an episode where the boss goes off on the cops for screwing up and going over the top.
