Have you ever had a paranormal experience?

Found this article this morning and thought it was a very interesting read.

I've always had a huge interest in the paranormal and the possible existence of ghosts or spirits. It's been a hobby of mine for a long time. Living in an old house, I can't say that I've ever had any sort of paranormal-like experience; never seen a ghost or any sort of apparition of any kind, though the idea fascinates me.

One famous case that was always of interest took place in Enfield, North London in 1977 and has come to be known as the Enfield Poltergeist. While there are some parts of the case that I find hard to believe; such as the spirit communicating through someone by way of possession, it's still fascinating.

I'm curious if anyone here on the board has had any kind of paranormal experience. I'm real open-minded and wouldn't mock a person's claim. Again, it fascinates me.

Has anyone ever experienced something or, even read a bizarre story they'd be willing to share?

While I enjoy movies and tv shows that talk about such things, I'm not a believer that this sort of thing exists. My wife, on the other hand does, so it always makes conversations with my 13 year old daughter somewhat interesting. She's not sure who to believe and my wife and I are not content to just agree to disagree.

^ Hell yeah.

I haven't had a paranormal experience and I do not look forward to it. I am perfectly happy denying the existence of ghosts'n'goblins and sleep soundly at night. :shifty:

I do look forward to reading about anybody else's experiences though.

I consider myself a skeptic first. I dislike people announcing everything as ghosts, such as 'orbs' in photographs (that's dust), or things moving around the house (it's called being absent minded).

However, I know what I see. In the house I grew up in, I saw an apparition twice, in the same place. It was while watching TV in the family room, around the same time at night (though the events were separated by years). From the family room one could look through the computer room and into the kitchen. Twice I saw someone, a very clear but not completely clear someone wearing white, walk from the kitchen and turn down the hall. Once I was the only one in the house, and the other time my parents were asleep (and that was the wrong direction for them to be coming from).

My mother thought it was the ghost of my uncle, since we have a picture of him wearing white in the computer room. I think, since the thing moved the same way both times and didn't seem to notice me, that it was an echo of some kind.

As I said, I like to think most anything can be explained or debunked, but I can't explain that. I most defiantly saw something.

That was interesting. I had never before heard about a connection between carbon monoxide and hauntings.

So in real life, the Ghostbusters would just come to your house and repair your furnace? ;)

I think we know what's now going to happen in the third movie.

And to the poster above the last one; very chilling. Like you, I am a skeptic. In most cases, I'm one of those, believe it when I see it people, but I'm still fairly open-minded. Had I experienced what you did, I would have been terrified.

The thing with me is, I have such a wild imagination. In fact, when someone asks me what scares me the most, I always say my imagination does. So, if there's something that I THINK I am seeing, I'd say, most of the time, I'm really not. It's just my imagination having a field day with me.

At the same time, it's weird to say, I want to have some kind of paranormal experience, but at the same time I do not. I don't want the living hell scared out of me.

I'm basically exactly like you. I don't really think a God/Goddess exists. I'm not sure about afterlife either but I'm not dismissing the possibility. I'm a skeptic at heart and usually keep my cool most of the times. I am a scientist after all ;)

BUT....I, much like you, have experienced and seen things that made me question some of my beliefs. One of them I've already dismissed as sleep paralysis. So it's not really paranormal. I had a dream someone was chasing me. He/she eventually caught up with me and started to choke me. I woke up and saw a shadow sitting on my chest and I could still feet the hands around my neck. I couldn't move. It lasted about 30 seconds before I managed to get up. Freaked me out at the time but while researching it, I realized it was sleep paralysis. It was the only time that happened. I suppose the only unusual thing with that was that when I went to the washroom, I had red marks around my neck (and I had them for days) and my shoulder was a bit bruised.

The one thing I can't explain this one abandoned home we lived in for a year. We were war refugees in Germany for a few years. When we returned back to Croatia, we found out that due to the war, someone moved into our house for shelter and it takes about a year to process things legally and get them to move out. So we lived in an abandoned house nearby for a while. I remember watching TV late at night and I would usually keep the door of my room open. The door made a sound like it was moving so I look over there and I remember for a split second seeing someone and then it was gone. I thought it was probably because I was watching tv and because the TV was the only bright thing in the room, when you watch for a while and look at something dark you tend to see stuff for a second. So no biggie right? About 2 weeks later I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. So I was doing my business in there, not really thinking about anything but wanting to go back. And again for a split second, I saw something but this time it was a reflection in the shower glass in front of me. I looked at the mirror behind me and there was nothing. A few more instances happened that was similar in nature. My mom claims she saw a person move through the hallways several times. A week before we moved out the sleep paralysis thing happened. And the basement was just plain creepy. I'm usually not creeped out easily and I don't find basements scary. The basement looked pretty standard and technically not scary in that way. But when you're there it just didn't feel right at all. I remember puking there out of nowhere. I didn't have nausea prior to that.

It was just a really weird house. Didn't really have any weird experiences before or after that house though.

No. I've never had any kind of paranormal experience.

I did see something pretty bizarre once, but after a bit of reflection, I figured out that it was an optical illusion.

I do, however, have a friend who swears that his house was haunted when he first moved in. I don't doubt his sincerity, but I do doubt his explanation for the events he describes. In any case, the alleged haunting stopped after a couple of years, and hasn't recurred.

Well, I've racked my brain trying to think of a word that means exactly what you're saying, and I don't think there is one.

I don't think there's any reason why a malapropism can't make a twisted kind of sense: in fact, as we've seen here, they can be even funnier when they do.

Or, to give another example: if I had said I was wracking my brain, it would also make a twisted kind of sense, if I had badly hurt my brain by thinking too hard.

Or "wetting" my appetite...I can understand why so many would spell it that way what with how people salivate when they see or smell food.
