Have you ever been fingerprinted

I was fingerprinted when I joined the Army.

And I was fingerprinted both times I was temporarily detained by the police...

These are similar to my experiences, only it was the Navy and it was at least two "other" times, maybe three.

I don't recall getting fingerprinted in an official capacity before, although I will have to get printed when I take the bar next year.

Finger Printer when I enlisted in the Air Force, and again for my Security Clearance.
Finger Printed twice for Firearms purchases.
Finger Printed for possible return to Active Duty during my IRR (Individual Ready Reserves) during Desert Storm.
Finger Printed for several jobs over the years.

1. for US Air Force

2. Many time thumb printed for checks

3. Background check as public school teacher

Yes. I once worked for a private security company that provided security at a nuclear power facility. I was fingerprinted for a criminal background check.

Yes, when my family was dealing with CPS because of what my brother's girlfriend got into. In order for us to keep custody of my niece, we all had to get finger printed. Twice, actually, because there was some problem with the machine, IIRC. I don't remember exactly, it was almost 6 years ago.

What you say is logical, Kestra, but the CRB system in England isn't.

Bolded for truth. However, it's gotten a little less nutty recently. Last year the government loosened the criteria - and the guidance for interpreting the criteria - for requiring CRB clearance, so you no longer need a check for (for example) coming into a school just to give a talk.

On topic, I don't think I've ever needed to provide fingerprints. I certainly didn't need to when I got my Enhanced CRB clearance for work (they only need them if you're provisionally matched to a police record and they need to verify exactly who you are), and the UK biometric passport doesn't use fingerprints as one of the datasets (IIRC it uses retina, iris and facial recognitions instead). Even when I've worked in secure settings, they used other ID verification systems rather than fingerprinting.

^You mention biometric passports, and now I can't remember if I got fingerprinted when I got my US passport in 2007 ...

It's not required for a US passport. However, the second form of ID requirement (driver's license, military ID, etc.) will usually include an electronic thumbprint on it.

I have been fingerprinted. Had to be in order to pass a background check to be a licensed Respite care provider for Foster kids.

Fingerprinted for the enlistment required to get an US Air Force ROTC scholarship. Then for a couple of security jobs I've had in the past. Lastly for a contracting job.

I took a job at a small town bank where the last step in the hiring process was to be fingerprinted and take a lie detector test.

I got the job but didn't stay long. They treated employees who weren't part of the family like criminals.

Yes, in order to be a substitute teacher, I was fingerprinted. I have also done the finger print thing to cash a check at the bank.

I've had it done twice. The first was with real ink, when the police came to our elementary school and fingerprinted all of the children as part of some assembly about stranger danger.

The second was the electronic thumbprint for my current job.

and for my driver's license (electronic thumbprint).

Oh, I had forgotten about that! Took me by surprise. I don't remember doing that in IL.

Is that something you had to do for a California license? I don't remember doing that, but it was 10 years ago now since I got my license, since then I've just renewed through the mail.

What you say is logical, Kestra, but the CRB system in England isn't. When I became a volunteer at my children's old school I needed a CRB check, which made sense. Several months later I took on a paid job at the same school, and I needed another CRB check done. To me and the school staff it made no sense, because I was the same person working in the same school with the same children, but because I'd moved from a voluntary to a paid position I needed another check, the latter being no more thorough than the first. A waste of time and money IMO.

Everyone where I work is fingerprinted. One of my co-workers recently got a reclassification of her job title, still doing the same exact work in the same exact place, even making the same amount of money, just a slightly different title, and she had to go through the background check again just for that. Talk about a waste of time and money! I'll also be moving from a temporary position to a permanent one soon, but still doing the same job, and I'll need another background check for that, even though my initial background check was less than a year ago!

Yeah, they had me do that for my CA license last fall. It probably is just a newer thing.

Yeah actually a ton of times for jobs, state licenses, food stamp applications. Seems like i have been fingerprinted dozens of times. Never for any nefarious reasons though.
