Hasbro's Power Rangers era and General Tokusatsu discussion

I'm liking the slick, less complicated design of Zeztz that we've seen so far. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of crazy suits, but its a nice change of pace after Gavv's goofier designs and the average level of complication in Rider suits since the Neo Heisei era. I'm sure he'll get super/final forms that have moire going no, but the base suit is a solid design that looks modern but not too busy, while being a bit of a tribute to the OG Kamen Rider.

Another teaser revealed over the weekend this one focusing on the different forms Zeztz has

You can see some of the actual filming locations they used in background shots.

0:13 seconds there's a shot in that warehouse where most of the big explosions happen

0:23 seconds. The green form Esprim shows some sort of female figure by the bike? Since she's likely the main show female and the show revolves around dreams would she be the "Dream Girl"? Japan loves to make up puns or things like that

Also some people have made the conclusion that since our protagonist is a secret agent who goes into dreams he's technically a "Sleeper Agent"

Actor Ryutaro Imai was officially announced as the lead character Baku Yorozu in the upcoming series Kamen Rider Zeztz. The actor made his official pre-series debut in the Kamen Rider Gavv: Invaders of the House of Snacks summer movie in Japan on July 25, 2025. An official announcement was made by the official Kamen Rider Zeztz social media account on the same day.

Imai will play the role of Baku Yorozu, “a mysterious agent who dives into people’s dreams to complete secret missions.”

Still no word on where it will stream in the US.

Love the aspect ratio change!
(Yes, I'm 51 and play Fortnite. It's fun to me! :D)

I played Fornite once a while back, and all of these crossovers they're doing with Star Wars, Marvel, and now Power Ranger is making me consider giving it another shot.

Press conference is over. It was pretty low key. They didn't even do a mock fight with a MOTW. I like how when "Zeztz" had to do cast photos that Baku's actor had to stay hidden and vice versa when Zeztz left the stage Baku's actor came back. Keeping up the illusion

This is the second time Koichi Yamadera has done the driver voice in a Yuya Takahashi season, since he was the narrator and driver voice in Zero-One. (I've been hearing him a lot lately, since he's Dessler in the Space Battleship Yamato remake series and Skinner in Lazarus, the new series from Cowboy Bebop's creator.)

From the trailer, I was assuming that the female lead was an undercover agent donning different disguises. The idea that she's just a celebrity that everyone dreams about is kind of a contrived way to give the actress something to do. But maybe it's the setup for something more.

I'm glad Rina Onuki is a regular, since I really liked her as Sae/Lopo in Geats and was disappointed that her arc was only 5 episodes long.

Still waiting for news on where the show will be simulcast in the US.

It's weird how fond Japanese TV shows are of English-language organization names and acronyms. And yet they usually speak the full names in Japanese.

Well, maybe not too weird, since it's often implied or explicit that these are the Japanese branches of international groups using English as their common language, particularly with Ultraman defense forces.

Which makes me think. We’ve never had a Kamen Rider series where the defense organization has a US branch or Europe version of for example Zect in Kamen Rider Kabuto

We’ve never had a moment where an American Kamen Rider in the organization meets the Japan equivalent

“I’m Kamen rider Kabuto of the US branch” etc etc

Maybe one series starts off with all the other branch riders dying and we’re left with the last one in the Japan unit

Kamen Rider Super-1 was based in the United States when he was modified into a cyborg for spaceflight, and was the only survivor when the villains destroyed the space center. IIRC, it's the only KR series where most or all of the first episode is set in the US.

Really, not that many primary Riders are members of larger organizations, as opposed to lone heroes with support teams. They've more often been renegades from the organizations that created their powers, or had uneasy or hostile relationships with them, or were survivors of their organizations' destruction like Super-1 and Blade. Hibiki, Ex-Aid, Saber, Revi/Vice, and Gotchard are the only ones I can think of that were actually members of multi-Rider organizations.

If you want to count ZAIA Enterprise as a Rider organization, then it did have an American branch featured in the Zero-One sequel specials, and Kamen Rider Zaia/Lyon Arkland was Japanese-American and a native English speaker. (He was played by the host of Iron Chef Canada, making him the second person after Mark Dacascos to play both a Rider and an Iron Chef Chairman.)

And here is the Opening song. First time we've had two female singers in an opening

I really like most of it, though I never care for the rap elements toku shows tend to incorporate in their theme songs. They should use female singers more often.
