Hasbro's Power Rangers era and General Tokusatsu discussion

I just mean it's a weird contrast to see everything looking just the same and then get close-ups on the faces of these actors looking 20 years older. And one would think that people would've moved on, got promoted, and passed the torch to their successors by now. Although maybe this is a "getting the band back together" premise.

Anyway, one would expect an organization to have updated its uniforms and equipment after 20 years. I had that reaction to the Heisei Ultraseven productions -- it was three decades later, but they not only wore the same uniforms, they even used the same 1967-vintage vehicle and equipment designs.
This isn't a Trek franchise where they change uniforms willy-nilly.

IRL, most Militaries / Police Services don't change uniforms that often.

Incidentally, I just thought of something. It seemed to me that Power Rangers never explained how Lord Zedd could be "resurrected" by Reaghoul in Dino Fury, given that Zedd didn't actually die but was purified by Zordon's energy wave. I'm not sure if it was stated in the show, but RangerWiki says that Reaghoul resurrected a past version of Zedd from a time before his purification. If that's so, that makes him essentially a Parallel Isotope, as the alternate Belial and Tregear are known in Ultra Galaxy Fight over in the Ultraman franchise. I guess that's not an uncommon way to bring back a destroyed or reformed villain; see also Thanos and Gamora in Avengers: Endgame.

Which means, as someone pointed out in the tweet that made me think of this, that the purified and evil versions of Zedd now exist simultaneously in the Power Rangers universe.

Another case of a Sentai/Ranger actor being unheroic in real life... Junya Ikeda (Gokaiger's GokaiSilver) has been arrested for alleged "complicity in special fraud," specifically a phone scam to trick people into sending him money by impersonating police officers, relatives, etc.

And this is a guy whose Sentai character idolized space pirates and had the power to disguise himself as other Rangers. He should've left all that on the show.

I'm so saddened that Junya Ikeda fallen to this level.

Just a month ago he was reaching out to fans because he'd been diagnosed with depression.

https://tokusatsunetwork.com/2023/0...-on-mental-health-requests-letters-from-fans/

.......I want to ask everyone for a favor of a lifetime. I ask that you give me the courage to walk forward. Tell me whatever you want to tell me. Would you write a letter for me? Not with those lifeless lines and dots on social media but with a letter you dedicate to me. A letter written from the heart and by your hands.

That will probably help push me forward. I can’t explain it, but I just know it will. And if I cry until I die, cry until I wither, cry until there’s nothing left to cry, then I will be reborn tomorrow and live on as who I really am. I would be happy knowing if that came true.

Thank you for reading my long incoherent post. Thank you for being a part of my life. I too want to be someone who validates someone else. I always have.

He allegedly dressed as a police officer, went to the victim's house, and conned them into handing over their bank card and was working with other people to do this.

Incidentally, since the final episodes of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury included an Easter-egg line setting up Power Rangers S.P.D., which is set in 2025 and is thus the chronologically last PR series, I decided to rewatch it, since I never watched the whole thing the first time. And I'm remembering why I lost interest.

Certainly it has a lot going for it. The original action/stunt sequences in the first few episodes are superb, which I assume is Koichi Sakamoto's work. And the character writing is more sophisticated than in a lot of PR seasons, with distinctly drawn personalities and real conflicts that arise from character instead of magic spells or whatnot. But my problem is that there was too much conflict. These characters are just not very likeable -- always testy and bickering and kind of mean-spirited toward each other. I'd remembered my problem being with the cast, that they just didn't click with me, but now I realize it's more to do with the characters than the actors. Hopefully they'll improve as the team grows together.

It's also surprising to see how young Kelson Henderson was then. A reminder that this was 18 years ago.

Meanwhile, I also decided I might as well check out Gridman The Hyper Agent on Shout TV, given how much I keep hearing about the anime sequel/reboot/whatever. I tried out the first episode a while back and was unimpressed, so I didn't continue. Now I'm trying again, and I'm two episodes in. I can at least say that it's not nearly as annoying as its US adaptation Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, which was basically just a lame high school sitcom with tacked-on cyberspace action sequences that could be pretty generically inserted into any given episode, given how little they connected. So far Gridman seems to hold together better, but it feels a little simplistic, and the child actors in the lead roles aren't great. Mainly it's amusing how crude the 1993 depictions of cyberspace and computer graphics were. It's also surprising how much of an Ultraman clone it is, right down to Gridman having an Ultraman-style rise sequence.

Isn't Time Force chronologically the last series, set in 3001?

The future parts, but not the main body of the series.

Anyway, I can already see that the attempt to reconcile SPD with current PR continuity is awkward, since SPD establishes that Sky's father was an SPD Ranger, meaning the organization has been active for decades, not just the two years between CF and SPD. Although I suppose we could assume that SPD has existed in space for decades and occasionally recruited members from Earth, only establishing a headquarters on Earth after the influx of alien refugees in 2023.

Wow! Anna Nicole Smith's daughter watches Super Sentai! Her dad made the suit from scratch!

I'm more surprised that people today remember who Anna Nicole Smith was.
If you read up on her life, it's wild on all the crazy things she's gone through.
Even her daughter had a giant Paternity Battle over who is her biological father; several men she was supposedly having a affair with including her photographer & body guard filed for paternity claims over the daughter.

Tokushoutsu Thanksgiving day takeover schedule

https://news.tokunation.com/2023/11...week-of-programming-picked-by-toku-fans-76656

A number of tokusatsu influencers, websites, and professionals have all come together to create the ultimate playlist of programming for the entire week of Thanksgiving

Select episodes from different Tokusatsu franchises

Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Ultraman, and Godzilla

Here is a list of who created programming for each day.

Well, that was prophetic... I've been watching the very silly 1993 series Gridman The Hyper Agent on Shout TV, and I just saw one where the computer-virus monster of the week took over a remote-controlled, autonomously mobile vacuum cleaner and had it attack people. The name of the vacuum-cleaner monster was Gyurunba, the last 2/3 of which is pronounced... "Roomba."

You see the speedometer gauge and the tires incorporated into the logo. There's up arrows on Bakuage and the “ー” in the name is the speedometer arrow.
