Hasbro's Power Rangers era and General Tokusatsu discussion

The DonBrothers meet the Hurricanegers for a Christmas special from the Toei Tokusatsu Fan Club:

As Momoi Tarou would say, "Omoshiroi!"

DonBrothers remains bonkers and I love it. I'm curious if the DonKiller-Killer looking like Shinichi will remain just a gag or if it's a hint to something they may play with later? Probably just a gag.

But... Jiro is the penguin juuto? What? I mean, it explains why his split personality is a thing. But, what? I have questions. In retrospect, we should have been suspicious the moment he and Murasame became friends. I'm very curious where they go with this element from here.

Next week: Haruka learns to drive, Sononi and Inuzuka get more romantic tension, and was that Miraiki?

Here they are!

First impression of the KingOhger is pretty positive. Magazine should be this/next week, hopefully we get some HQ pics when scans finally hit. But from just what we see here, I think the suits are going to be awesome. I absolutely love that purple is in the core team now. Sentai has been experimenting a lot the last few years, and it feels like it's hitting on some things that can help make it feel less stale.

Going to need a better look at the mecha before I can draw any conclusions. Looks a little busy here, but it's also a background element so might look better when we get the full body look.

Not at all familiar with the writer this year, going to be interesting to see how the show turns out. But it looks like my return to Sentai collecting may be entering a third year.

Those suits are awesome. The armored look works for them, its a bit different but you can still tell that they're a sentai. I've been really enjoying Donbrothers, but it will be nice to get back to a team that is both all there physically and looks like a well themed team.

Also, and this is very much just speculation based solely on the poster, I'm getting a slightly more serious vibe from it then I have the last few years of sentai. Again, while I really like Donbrothers, after two comedies in a row (one a full on parody and one a kind of dark comedy with some serious moments) it would be nice to get back to a bit more of a straight laced show.

Names for the KingOhger team

KuwagataOhger, TonboOhger, KamakiriOhger, PapillonOhger, HachiOhger.

Rumored CREW for this new series-

Director: Kazuya Kamihiruchi (previously handled multiple Kamen Rider & several episodes of Ryusoulger)
Screenplay: Mizuto Takano (previously wrote Heisei Generations Dr. Pacman)
Producer: Takahito Omori & Taku Machixuki (both longtime Kamen Rider vets)

Those are impressive costumes. Imposing and elegant. And capes are back! Capes get a bad rap these days, but I think they're classy. (Take that, Edna Mode!)

The suits are a lot more armored/rigid than usual for Sentai. They actually look like practical body armor rather than spandex. I wonder if that means we're in for a more tech-based, less magical/fanciful team than we've had for a while, something like the early Sentai teams that worked for advanced government or scientific organizations. On the other hand, they've got those ornate swords. Although the swords have a high-tech look too, and seem to have multiple attachments or switches of some sort.

That's stag beetle, dragonfly, mantis, butterfly, and bee. With butterfly in French, unlike the rest. The Japanese word is chou, so I guess they wanted something longer. (I wondered if they didn't want two double-O syllables in a row, but they had HououRanger in Dairanger.)

The robots are called Shugod, Kingohger is the name of the combined robot itself. Each member is the ruler of a different kingdom

Red - From Shugoddam, the kingdom of gods
Blue - From Kosopa (?), the kingdom of technology
Yellow - From the Kingdom of Ishabana, the kingdom of art and medicine
Purple - From Gokkan, the kingdom of ice and snow
Black - From Touf, the kingdom of agriculture

The enemies are the Bugnarack.

Nothing on characters or personalities. This will be revealed later down the line

I really hope we get a "cool" Red in the upcoming season, if that awesome suit goes to a loud/hotheaded/dumb Red it will be an absolute tragedy.

I'm really curious to see what the morpher is for the new show, I hope its not another gun (although I'd prefer a gun to the weird Preschool sundial looking morpher of Kiramager).

The changer is the sword. The sword has a representation of each ranger's bug on the hilt. If someone wanted to play as yellow they can manipulate it to make yellow ranger's sword I think. The handle has a nice wood grain color too.

The changer for Kirameiger was a tire FYI

Eh, so much for it being more grounded. I was hoping for a change of pace from the bizarre, surreal worldbuilding of the past couple of seasons.

I wasn't sure about the sword, it doesn't seem to have much to make me think its a morpher, but if so its a bit disappointing, but could be much worse.

As for the Kiramager morpher, I mean it might technically be a tire, but really it was just a big circle with four buttons, it was probably my most disliked sentai/Power Rangers morpher.

There's going to be a big February and March Televi kun and TV Magazine issue coming. KingOhger on the front covers.

More scans to come

Heh. All of them except KuwagataOhger have little bug faces on their helmets as well as the wings making up the visors (if you can call them visors when they're completely opaque).

Really like the designs for this new season. I'm sorry, but Japanese stuff like this tends to be so much more creative than it's American counterparts.
