In any event, the line sounds distinctive, but it does not make much sense upon further analysis: Threepio is an android. All (sapient) droids are robots and not unions of the biological and the technological.

I know I had a Star Trek comic TPB at some point in the late 70s that mentioned the term. But at this point I have no idea what specific comic it was.
