I'm doing a project for National History Day on Gene Roddenberry and I could use all the help I can get.

I need to explain in my project on how significant Star Trek is to not only me, but to the world. I need evidence, stories, pictures, anything that can help me change the minds of those who think that Star Trek is "just a television show".

Please tell me your feelings or comments about Gene or the show that have changed your life in any way. The more detail, the better.

If you would like to know more about National History Day, check out their official website here: http://www.nationalhistoryday.org/

Thanks so much!!

Just curious... why restrict yourself to Roddenberry? He wasn't the only creative talent behind Star Trek.

The subject of National History Day was 'Individual in History' so I obviously can't do more than one person.

Gene did do something historic. You obviously believe that or else you wouldn't be on a Star Trek forum.
Look at all the millions of fans that have a new perspective on life since the show has been produced. What I want to do is see how he has affected people individually.

Yeah, it did. It preempted me from ever developing a social life. Thanks an f-ing lot, Star Trek.

I think it helped me become a much more open-minded, liberal person as I became a fan through TNG reruns in junior high and through high school with it, DS9, and Voyager.

Those shows (particularly TNG) had a strong impression on me growing up.

I think this discussion might be better served by being in the General Trek Discussion forum. You'd probably get better, and more, responses there.

Not going to answer, too personal. But I've talked with Majel about it. Good luck with your project. :)
