I was completely neutral to the epilogue (neither positive or negative), and for all my problems with the book the epilogue doesn't even merit a mention.
With or without, either way she left herself plenty of room to go back and milk that cow if/when she wants.
It wasn't necessary but I personally loved it and am glad they decided to film it as well.
I never understood people's hatred for that part.
Putting it in seems like the obvious choice. Anyone under the age of 15 would have been unhappy without it and anyone over the age of 15 shouldn't really care.
So who were those people complaining? I dunno.

I liked it. It established that the story was truly over, so we didn't have to speculate whether Rowling would eventually change her mind and write some more sequels. We know that Voldy is definitely gone for good, that Harry is an auror, and that a permanent happy ending was unquestionably achieved.
Also, all of the couples I wanted to see ended up together just like they were supposed to. Except for Neville and Luna, but oh well.

Yeah I liked it because it showed where all the characters had gone in their lives, confirming things and established a definitive ending for the series. I looked at it almost like a bonus for the fans who had read through all the books and invested emotionally in the characters. Don't really see what the fuss about the epilogue is from the haters.
Yeah I remember the thread, posted twice in on the first page. Still didn't get what's wrong with it.
Sometimes, to see the truth, we must be willing to see it. If, after reading the fine and reasoned arguments put forth against the epilogue in the aforementioned thread, you still don't "get it"... then perhaps you are not ready to do so.

I thought it was a little cheesy, but then a lot of the problems I had with it (everyone marries someone from school?) are largely because of my perspective - inside the wizarding world, everyone would marry someone from school. Because there's only one school. So contents wise, I don't really fall out with it once I think about it. I'm glad they've filmed it, brings the film series (as it did the book series) full circle back to the Kings Cross scene in book 1, and call me easily pleased, I like that sort of ending

I actually think the books are pretty bad, but that may be because I saw the movies first. Ron is a dick pretty much all the time, Harry gets all the credit despite having all the help in the world from everyone and their dog, and Hermione uses magic to make herself prettier. None of the main characters are actually likeable.
I don't even know why they're all friends. They're always bickering with each other and never seem to share a joke or a have a laugh.
I only read up to Goblet Of Fire so maybe they get better.

It's been a couple of years since I read DH, but remember being entirely underwhelmed by the Epilogue. I can't remember the specifics of my distaste for the epilogue, but I remember feeling as though Rowling either said too much or not enough. In other words, the idea of an epilogue is perfectly fine ... but the manner with which Rowling wrote it left a lot to be desired.
As for including it in the film ... well, they *are* trying to fill two movies. I guess if they have room to include it, they might as well. Perhaps they can find a way to improve upon what Rowling did?
