"Harry Potter" Ultimate Editions

Not sure if someone has already posted this, but didn't see anything on a quick perusal of the board.

According to http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/, Warner Bros. is coming out with Ultimate Editions of all the "Harry Potter" films, starting with the first two on Dec. 8. They're basically getting the LOTR treatment. The 4 to 5 disk sets will include both the theatrical and new extended editions of the films; an 8-part set of feature length documentaries, spread out over all 8 films; tons of additional features; blah blah. Article here at http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2009/9/24/official-harry-potter-dvd-website-updated-with-info-on-half-blood-prince-ultimate-collectors-editions

Details of each Ultimate Edition here at http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2009/9/18/high-res-artwork-new-chris-columbus-in-movie-experience-on-ultimate-collections-editions

I'm hoping the extended editions will take the chance to add back in some critical plot threads from the books, especially in the later films, where so much had to be cut for length. We'll see!

And that's why I haven't bothered getting any of the DVDs yet -- I had a feeling they'd release something like this. Actually, I kind of thought they'd do a box set after Deathly Hallows came out on DVD... although they probably will anyway, with these editions I'd imagine.

I'll be interested in checking these out... some of the more recent films in particular felt like they had a lot of stuff cut from the theatrical release, so hopefully these Ultimate Editions can fill in a few of the missing pieces and make the movies feel a bit more complete.

I will still wait for all the movies to be out first. It's been 8 years since the first movie came out in theaters, so I can wait a while longer for a good sale on a box set.

^ Exactly, I'm refrianing from buying any of the HP DVD's (although i DO have OOTP on HD-DVD) until the OMGWTFBBQ!!!1!!11! editions for them are released

As with other SFF movies on my wish list, I think I'm going to wait for the Ultimate Super Deluxe Fabulous Collector's Edition Blu-Ray Collection to come out.

Don't get your hopes up.

They cannot add what they did not film.:vulcan:

I don't see anything in the release info that indicates extended editions a la LOTR. Deleted scenes - but that will be in its own chapter separate from the film.

Exactly. We all know that not all of the films are done yet, so any boxed set that comes out right now is - by definition - incomplete. And thus there will be even more boxed sets to buy when the films are all out. So why not wait till then?

Meh. I bought the first 5 films for $28. I wanted to rewatch them before the lastest film. I will use them next year for the next film.(I like to rewatch them before each new film)

I paid under $6 for each of them. So no big deal. If they do indeed have extended versions of the first 2 films I wll get them when they reach $6. Im not paying a premium for a mere 20 extra minutes as well as some stupid extras I will never watch. The regular versions will suit me just fine for now.:techman:

Even with these Ultimate Editions, still no bloody audio commentaries. I don't think I'll bother with the first two movies, but I'll definitely consider getting the U.E. of PoA when it's released.

Yeah I don't see myself upgrading to a disc without a commentary.

Isn't the Blu-Ray extra with Columbus essentially an audio commentary with PiP material? I realize that won't help DVD owners, but it is a feature-length supplement that is new to this edition.

The first two may be getting extended cuts, but I don't know if the others will...

If you watch the trailer at the "Harry Potter" DVD website, for the Ultimate Editions, it says "Years 1 & 2 this December 8, years 3 - 7, coming soon."

I'll probably pick them up on BluRay. I'd be surprised it a more deluxe version than this comes out. Warner is promoting this as the Potter edition to end all; sort of like the LotR extended edition sets. It's the final word on the series.

Years 1 & 2 will be fun, but it's really the later ones I'm looking forward to. Chris Columbus' films didn't leave much out from the book (an easier task due to the length of the first two stories), and the second film even seemed a little long in its theatrical cut. However, PoA had some really important missing stuff, such as the details about the origin of the Marauder's Map. It'd be great to see that re-inserted. GoF onward definitely could use some more time in each film. I just hope they have enough stuff filmed that's actually worth adding back in. Who knows how much was filmed and cut that's actually worthwhile.

That's really not important at all, because it adds nothing to the story.
I love PoA exactly like it is, there's nothing that should be added.

Agreed. While Im sure it nice to have a few extra scenes I doubt they really add anything to the story. For me I think it would be rather wasteful to go out and buy these things at a premium when you can get the standard versions(with no extras) for $6 each. Now when they do evntually get cheaper I may buy them.
