Harry Kim - Insomniac?

The_Baroness

Captain
Captain
He's always at Ops during the day, reading whats on his screen and occassionally saying something pointless...

..but he also 'captains' the night shift...

when does he sleep?

I assume that its only certain days of the week when he gets the night shift, but I'm just guessing.

Of course.

he was telling Tom to take on shifts too as if there were plenty of NightShift Captaincies to go around.

Which is odd since Tom was a crap XO in Resolutions that Kim and the Ocampan got past him constantly to bother the Captain during nap time.

There's 3 shifts. If they had more crew they might switch to four like the Enterprise in season 6 after Jellico or Sisko in Season 5 at the request of Kira in season 5 as mentioned in the Ship.

Ds9 ran (probably the length of a day on Bajor?) on a 26 hour day, what about Enterprise and Voyager?

Still, two shifts is only 16 hours.

Then there's fallout from the Eugenics war to consider that these great great grandchildren of Superman as everywhere and every one pulling humanity up by it's bootstraps, that sleep might just be something other people do.

I never for a second considered that Harry might be genetically enhanced...

stunted...maybe..

The fact that Harry often stays awake for six days straight is one of those things that would have come up had he had any character development. :p

Or maybe that's why he didn't have any development! Maybe he was too tired to do anything interesting!

Obviously, he did have some sleeping problems because he was sleeping (or trying to) with a black piece of cloth covering his eyes. I think it was in "The Cloud" that we could see that.

He's always half asleep, even when he's half awake.

... Explains a lot, doesn't it?

Harry should had been a redshirt.

Wong does not have enough personality be in the main cast.

Judging from the few interviews and one convention appearance I've seen, Garrett Wang seems to have loads of personality. As I said somewhere before, that this personality didn't make it to his character is either the result of him being a poor actor, or because of poor direction. I don't know enough about him and what was going on to say for sure.

I would tend to think that the failure to transfer Mr. Wang's personality to his character was due to the writing. The director would try to stick to the written character, right? (Yes, I'm naive about acting and directing.)

Set phasers to permanent stun...
