Jon Favreau has confirmed that Ford has been cast in his adaptation of Cowboys & Aliens.

This marks the first interesting, and hopefully good, thing Ford has done in over a decade!

Hmm. I was going to argue and point out The Fugitive. And then I looked it up just to make sure I had the date right. 1993. 17 years. Holy crap. What the hell happened, Harrison?

So some Favreau summer vehicle qualifies as his first interesting choice? I was more slushed over Indy 4, and I wasn't terribly energetic about that either.

Cowboys & Aliens is just a really cool, witty, fun concept. I mean, it has the potential to be a lot of fun, especially with Jon Favreau at the helm. He's no Spielberg or Scorsese, but Iron Man was certifiably a really fun summer blockbuster. These films aren't the next Academy Award contender, but they're sort of just good fun at the cinema.

Plus, you have Daniel Craig, who is an actor who just doesn't sign up for these sorts of films, so that has to make you think, and again, if Harrison Ford signed up for this, then something must be going on. I was genuinely surprised to hear that Ford had signed on. Look at his repertoire lately. Ford hasn't done a fun, good movie in quite a while. I think Indy IV was going to be that movie (possibly in his mind), but it just wasn't.

So yeah, this is a lot to be excited about.

For Ford, that really is out of left field. Maybe he's like Connery with Gandalf and Morpheus and can't really understand the appeal but wanting to be part of something more impactful on the media landscape. Either way, I think it sounds interesting and perhaps even, gulp, fun.

I love Harrison Ford (like, "borderline-stalker LOVE"), but even *I* didn't see his last film. I'm hoping this one will be at least a fun movie, although it does sound a bit silly.

Still, Daniel Craig is in it, too. That gives me hope that it won't be horrible.

I say, bring it on! I can't wait to see it.

The real draw, for me anyway, is that Damon Lindelof wrote this thing. Or co-wrote it. Either way, I was going to check it out on that basis alone.

And Ford's career was hardly staked on those in its halcyon period.

I haven't read the source material, but it was written by Fred Van Lente, and he's one of the top three or four comics writers currently working.

Both Extraordinary Measures and What Lies Beneath were very good movies in the time frame you mentioned.
