Honest to God, yesterday, I was considering posting this as I had not seen it remarked upon, even though the awards were given in May (iirc). Then there was that other thread whose title shall go unmentioned.

At 77, and in ill health, he is still producing remarkable work. This award is given yearly by the SFWA membership for outstanding work.

His story "How Interesting: A Tiny Man" tied with Kij Johnson's story "Ponies" for the award. Congratulations to both writers.

EDIT: Although given in 2011, technically it is the 2010 award, as the work was published in that year. I think the Hugos number theirs by year given, or am I backward on both.

Outstanding!

And a nice counterpoint to the other Eliision-related thread currently in the forum.

Thanks for posting that. It would be a mistake to think of Ellison as just as that cranky old guy who sues people. He's had a long and distinguished literary career.

And congrats as well to Kij, whom I've known ever since she was the managing editor at Tor ages ago.

He's won so many awards! It's been a long time since he has though...maybe it's a record between wins.

How much do you suppose he cares about awards? Not knowing the man myself, I'd hazard to guess it would depend more on the specific award. Regardless, he has been highly regarded for a long enough time, that it's good to see him be recognized for his contributions.
