Hardest Game You've Ever Played?

For me that's most RTS games near the end. In any action/adventure game you can eventually learn where to be and master the necessary reflexes but these games where generally a nightmare near the end with so many object to control at the same time (plus the lag on my computer!). I don't think I've ever finished any such games (plus I always found them redondant, anyway).

Legend of Zelda/ N64. Batman (89) NES. Batman Forever/ SNES-SEGA. The Echo the Dolphin series/ SEGA. X-MEN/ Sega. Metal Slug series/ PSP. Spider-man/ Sega. (great music for a game, decent graphics, but hard as hell!) Spider-man and the X-MEN: arcades revenge/ SNES-SEGA (This game was CRUEL! I could NEVER make it past the first level with Gambit, Storm's levels were PAINFUL to play and poor Cyclops got killed more times then I could COUNT!)

Phantasy Star II on the Genesis (without the guide book)
Sega designed Phantasy Star II to be such a difficult game that they included a walkthrough guide with each and every copy.

Woah, I never realised that. I played I, III & IV and they all rocked, but somehow I never played II. I liked them all, but III was the first one I played, so has a special place in my gaming life. :)

I never had much trouble with Batman '89, but I memorized that game from beginning to end. I can usually breeze through the game up until the cathedral level, where some of those wall jumps are a bit rough - and the Joker is a pretty tough final boss. But if you take time out to get a lot of power ups (hearts and ammo) from those robot things that drop from the ceiling, it isn't nearly as bad. I replayed this game recently and was surprised at how much I remembered about it, still a pretty fun game.

I played the prototype of Batman '89 with the different cut scenes, and was surprised to find no Joker battle at the end, the end battle is with that fireball dude.

Never could beat Arcades revenge.

Frakking Battlestar Galactica on the PS2. That frakking game made me so mad I ended up throwing it away. It was unbelievably hard. Each level was like pulling teeth and you had to play it over and over and over again just to advance.

I got fed up on the level where I was in a captured cylon raider and had to fly in formation for what seemed forever with other raiders. Then I had to attack some hub of theirs and I had no clue what to shoot so I ended up dying after being pummelled by every defense that hub had around it.

What made it even worse was once I died, I had to restart flying back in that darn formation to make it to the hub again. It would have been better if the game restarted when you were already at the hub. At least I wasnt wasting time trying to get to it.

FRAK THAT GAME!

Kid Chameleon on the Genesis is probably the game I put the most time and effort into beating and never did without using a 'teleporter-thing' to skip the nigh-impossible levels.

PS3 was a decent game in it own right and it really tried with its multiple endings and choices within the game but it is the weakest entry in the first 4 PS games. My personal fav is PS1 for the exact reason you had, its the first PS game i played plus it is also the first RPG game i played on a console. If you have played and enjoyed the other PS games i would really suggest that you play PS2. It's available on the Wii's Virtual Console as well as on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis collection for PS3 and Xbox 360. You can also grab it separately as an Xbox Live Arcade title. After grabbing the game you can go to gamefaqs for some hints but i suggest that you go to http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/hint-book/for a bit of history and then go to http://www.pso-world.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=720 to play the game 1990 style.

I thought that Max Payne 1 & 2 where pretty hard at certain parts. A lot of the time it felt like trial and error, even on the normal difficulty. I remember this one sequence where you had to escape from a building as it was exploding - it must have taken me 30 tries.

I have pretty much given up trying to play RTS games. For some reason I just get overwhelmed by all the multitasking and start to find it more frustrating than fun.

Black Dahlia: I think you need an IQ in excess of 150 to play that game properly. For the majority of the puzzles I just clicked around at random until I accidentally found the solution.

Had another go, got to level 8 which required expert timing which I lack at this time. :(

After the day I just had, I think I might just change my vote to Guitar Hero: Greatest/Smash Hits.

Cool beans. Thanks!

That game fried my TV. Seriously, played it so much that the the tube blew.

I used the teleporter trick too.

I mean, seriously. A WALL OF SPIKES AND DRILLS AND SAW BLADES chases you in a bunch of levels. . . fuckin' cruel assholes designed that game. I'd love a (must be side-scrolling) sequel/remake though.

Wow, I completely forgot about Guitar Hero. That, by far, is the hardest game ever for me. I simply lack the coordination and reflexes to be able to do that game. I've never completed 1 single song after numerous attempts on GH3. I finally put the game away and haven't touched it. Which reminds me, I need to find it, and put in on Ebay.

Not many games that you could turn into a skull-chucking tank, it's true...

I'm pretty good on Medium on Bass guitar now but they've made some changes since World Tour in order to make Bass artificially harder since it's seen as being easier than lead guitar.
