Hard Drive/File Size Problem

I seem to be having a problem with my external hard drive. It's a 500gb drive formatted at FAT32, and I am trying to move an 8gb and a 12gb file onto it, but it says the files are too large for the target. Is there anything I can do to move these files over without reformatting to NTFS? Would reformatting to NTFS allow me to move the files?

Plenty of free file splitters out there. Even something like Winzip can span the file if you archive it.

But everyone will tell you to go to NTFS. It's safer, faster and won't waste as much space. And you don't have to reformat. You can convert a filesystem to NTFS, in place.

FAT32 has a 4 GB file size limit. Like the previous poster said, plenty of free file splitters to choose from.

Okay then, so in the case of these 2 files, rar'ing won't work. Files are wmv files. Perhaps a hard drive reformat would be better...

As jkladis already said, you do not need to reformat it. Good idea to back it up first, but no need to reformat it.
