Happy Stories of Customer Service

Speaking of restaurants, at my local Italian, I always get two kisses on the cheek and a limoncello after my meal on the house. Family owned little place where they treat their regular customers like friends. Almost unbelievable to find something like that in the middle of London.

Folks, if you are getting (or have good reason to believe you will get) mediocre customer service, speak the six words that pretty much guarantee an increase in the quality of said service...

"May I speak with your manager?"

Your willingness to take it to the next level tells the customer service rep two things.

(1) You are going to get what you want, whether it's from the CSR's manager, or the manager's manager, or how high up the food chain you have to go, so it would be in everyone's best interests for the CSR to just attend to your problem here and now and not have to get their boss involved, where you could discuss the CSR's unwillingness to help you...odds are they'll just take care of your problem immediately and get you on your merry way, rather than get their boss involved.

(2) If you've ever worked customer service, you know that you can tell the customer "no" repeatedly, but when he/she speaks those six words and you transfer it to your manager, your manager will want to get on with their day, and just tell you to give the customer what he/she wants, and then you really look like a tool when you've just spent 20 minutes telling the customer why you can't waive a late charge, etc., then your boss just comes in and overrides everything because he doesn't want to deal with the situation (that's below his pay grade).

But use this information judiciously. Please don't whine about something like a late charge that you and the CSR both know you've earned; use it when you get some gum-smacking lazy slacker who is obviously not doing their job, servicing the customer.

Hope this helps.

When i switched pizza delivery services i was amazed how fast they were.

Prior to that i never got my order in under half an hour.. if there was "rush hour" (Friday and Saturday evenings) it could take up to an hour or more.

The new ones were the fastest ever.. i barely sat down again and they were at my door. They also were quite cheap when compared to the size of the Pizza and it was a good one. Now that's how you get and keep customers.. it's pretty much the only place i order from now because they are so fast and reasonably priced.

Legs & Co have always been good for customer service.

First time was after a charity gig I did a few years back, the girls heard about it so it was free lap dances all night for my good work. They've also stayed open late on several occasions as a thank you to the regulars.

Outside of strippers... I can only recall good customer service from the local shops at my girlfriends who are always friendly and chatty, much like my local convenience store as they always remember my face and have my brand of cigarettes ready before I even get to the counter.

Or when you go to your favorite bar and upon seeing you, they automatically start making your favorite cocktail for you and it's waiting when you actually sit down. :o

Or when you walk into a restaurant and they don't even bother bringing you a menu, they just put in your food order and bring you a Newcastle.

*looks sheepish* :o

Now you see guys, this is why you gotta mix it up a little. Never too predictable, never the same order every time. That way you keep them on the ball and interested in you.

So much to teach, so little time... ;)

Agreed! :techman: You don't want the bum's rush! Otherwise you can't change your order because they've stopped listening!

Me: Latte please.
Them (shouting): You want low fat, right??
Me: :alienblush: Thanks for the suggestion! Really!

Yesterday at john fogerty concert a lady came to exchange a shirt, and the one she got was 5 dollars cheaper, and instead of me giving it back she let me keep it.

It's not a lot, but that type of fanbase don't normally give anything.
