Happy/Sad that the full trailer isn't on-line.

I think the phrase I am looking for is mixed emotions but I can't believe that the full trailer for the new Trek film isn't on-line yet, even if it was filmed on a mobile telephone or something, especially with that screening of footage in London how did somebody not film it and put it up on the internet.

Having said that I am really glad that even in this day and age of broadband internet and digital cameras built into mobile telephones somebody as not or could not get it on the internet, I guess some of the fans must be slipping.

Be absolutely fascinating to see where it appears first.

After reading the descriptions of the 20 minutes or so of clips recently shown to the press, and seeing the new Enterprise, I've become suddenly less interested in seeing the new trailer, or the film.

I've been pretty optimistic about it until this week.

Yea the info from the 20 minute showing is almost TO much information. I dont really get why JJ thought this was needed? Considering we still have 6+ months to go before the movie I think they are crazy releasing all of this information about the plot. A trailer is one thing but to show 20 minutes of the movie and release information about those 20 minutes all over the Internet is going overboard. At this rate we will know the entire story before the movie is even released.

I'm not convinced we know much about the plot, but the snippets I read don't give me as much confidence as I would have hoped.

The full trailer won't be in theaters for another two days, unless I'm mistaken. On the footage shown at the screenings in London and elsewhere: those were private screenings for the press and I'm pretty sure it would be considered a serious breach of professional ethics and possible grounds for legal action and/or termination if one of those invited to attend such a screening were found to have been the source for such a leaked piece of video on the internet.

Be that as it may, I do hope that you and everyone else on this forum have the restraint and the good sense not to post any specific information about such leaked video here (and especially no links to sites where such leaked video might be "obtained") because I'd hate to have to warn anyone for it. That sort of discussion is off-limits per board policy because we really, really hate receiving threatening-type cease-and-desist notices from Paramount's legal department. I'm sure you can understand this.

If I don't get around to seeing Quantum of Solace this weekend I can certainly wait 'till Monday to see it when it officially shows up online. Shitty bootlegs drive me nuts and for something I've been anticipating so fervently, I'd rather see it as JJ intended.

I'm planning on seeing the Bond movie Friday night so I don't really care when it's online, although I would like to go home after the movie and download a 1080p copy of it.

Er, just out of curiosity, does this happen to the TrekBSS often?

Can I just say I would never have posted a link to a trailer if I found one but thanks for saying just in case, I know totally where your coming from but that does not usually stop people in the industry being silly around copyright and law issues.

Even though I don't really like pirates and pirated material it never normally stops, screener copies turning ups as DVD's on markets, weird cam copies of trailers appearing on certain websites, and just all that stuff generally.

I mean with hardly even trying just recently I've found the trailers for the new Friday the 13th film and Tron 2, so how is it possible that the trailer for the new Star Trek film is probably sitting in some cinemas right now and it is not on-line.

Like I said though I am kind of glad, I much prefer things without spoilers really, I loved Cloverfield for that very reason and I grew up way before the internet so I can quite easily live without it, I just find it very strange that's all.

I kinda wish they'd released the full trailer online and THEN had their clip showing or what-have-you. Having trailer descriptions out before the trailer was been publicly released makes watching the trailer (which I'm still going to do) a little melodramatic.

We have been contacted before on copyright-related matters (not too long ago, there were a lot of images which had to be edited out as a result of one such) but they don't happen often. We try to keep it that way; it's just happier all around when we do.

No problem, and I know that people will do silly things. Just making sure to remind everyone here where the line is. :techman:

I know you guys don't even want to wade into those murky waters on the BBS, but just to play devil's advocate, I can't imagine you'd get a cease and desist for having a link to a pirated copy of what is essentially an advertisement for something the studio is looking to sell. That stuff usually doesn't get pulled from YouTube I don't think.

Anyone else planning to agonize over each and every frame of the online trailer when it comes out? After so long a wait for anything concrete on this film, I'll be doing some of that, Monday night.

It does.

It totally does with Lucasfilm. They are very possessive of their promotional material.

Was the recent cease and desist in regards to the slew of Trek XI images that were published last month?
It was to do with images which weren't published, actually. Someone abused their access privileges elsewhere and some not-for-release images turned up here, which resulted in a very clear "take those down now" message from Paramount to the board owner.

Regarding YouTube: yeah, stuff gets pulled for copyright reasons there quite often. CBS and NBC have been particularly aggressive about it, and old Looney Tunes shorts tend to have a staying time measured in days, if not hours, so it's not just new things.

Deaf Poet, to answer your question briefly: it's difficult to predict what the studios/copyright holders will object to and what they will give a pass. On one occasion, we got a legal-department harrumph over the images being used as avatars and in caption contests and in another, we received a strong request to put a lid on episode info which became visible on a network's website well in advance of the airdate, due to a site permissions fuckup. Other stuff which might seem serious flies without a challenge, so you just never know. In the case of the trailer, I'd imagine that they simply want to exercise control of when and by what means it's viewed, and they are within their rights to do so.

With that sort of thing in mind, and knowing well which side our bread is buttered on (we're playing with their stuff for free, basically) we find that erring on the side of caution is just a better policy, in the long run.
