Happy Birthday DS9!

The Cutest of Borg

Can you believe it's been 18 years since Star Trek: Deep Space Nine debuted? So in honor of the finest (IMHO) incarnation of Star Trek, I pose this question: what were your thoughts when you first watched DS9?

I anxiously watched the premiere episode when it first ran. I saw some potential with the characters, and was glad they brought over the Chief from TNG. I was a bit worried that Jake would be another Wesley Crusher, but liked the way they set up Dukat as Sisko's foil.

I remember being initially disappointed with the series.

A great start, with the Borg at Wolf 359 sequence, but the rest of the premiere I found bland. Subsequent episodes didn't do much for me either.

Luckily, I remembered hating TNG to begin with as well, so persisted, and was ultimately, greatly rewarded for my patience!

I thought it sucked, except for the Borg scene. Now looking back, its one of my favorites.

I thought the premiere was ok but the next few eps fell flat, in fact much of season 1 was that way, but its the same with most series, actors and writers have to come to terms with their creations all in all the first ep rated a B+ and the first season...C-

^^ Came good at the end of the first season though, with Duet and In the Hands of the Prophets. Then you obviously started having the seeds of the Dominion being sewn in season 2 and that was largely that.

Happy birthday to DS9!

I think the episodes that were written after the series first aired in January 1993 were much better, when the writers got feedback and saw for themselves what wasn't working.
