Happy Anniversary, TOS!

Star Trek was first broadcast 48 years ago today -- on September 8, 1966. The episode was "The Man Trap."

Happy Birthday, Star Trek! How different would the world be -- and how different would each of US be -- if Star Trek had never existed? Here's hoping it's still around 48 years from now.

LLAP to every Star Trek fan!

The third aired episode (2nd pilot) 'Where no man has gone before' must have seen out of place. Because in other episodes the uniforms look different and Spock's eyebrows look different too. I think it must have been confusing for the fans who saw Star Trek for the first time, back in 1966.

Actually, although Star Trek first premiered in the U.S. on September 8th, its world premiere was September 6th.

I don't even want to think about how much more sleep I would have had. Every night staying up to watch repeats on channel 17 WPHL and 11 WPIX at 11:30 and 12:30 respectively in the 80s. Bah, sleep is for the healthy.

Watched The Man Trap to commemorate. I pulled out the Laserdisc transfer I made a year ago, with the "electric violin" themes restored to the credits. Recreating the 1966 sound mix experience as closely as possible. Joyous!

Different? Very much so. Trek was the one little island of happiness in the ocean of misery that was my childhood. I can't even imagine what life would have been like without it.

Here's to the cast, crew, writers, and Gene Roddenberry for making it all possible.

How about the next Star Trek movie be released in the US on September 8, 2016 and World Wide on September 6, 2016 for the actual 50th Anniversary?.

They said yesterday was also the anniversary of the premire of the animated Star Trek as well.
