Happy 13th Birthday "All Good Things..."

I'm 27 and resigned to the fact that I'll never be 6'3" or anything like that.

It was also 1994 that they tried to make soccer popular here, and then we were reaffirmed in our belief that nobody in the US cares. It's a legit sport and all I think, and they players are in great shape, I'd just rather watch paint dry becuase its twice as exciting.

I specifically remember this date, because 5 days later, I attended a convention in Anaheim, California on the day of Jonathan Frakes and Genie Francis's 6th wedding anniversary (They were married on May 28th, 1988.).

I remember May 23rd as well since it's my birthday. Also the same day as the Voyager Finale and just this week, Lost.

AGT is in the top 3 finales of all times. B5 is the other and I'm leaving the 3rd open. It was really the episode that showed me just how great TNG could be after a less than spectacular season.

^ B5 had a great ending to it.

The thing I really liked about it was they they knew how it was going to begin, progress, and end right from the get go.

You didn't get any of these shows (*cough* SG1) that thought they would end but go picked up, or vice versa, that lead to funky endings/plot twists.

Oh, I was a shipper before that. I just didn't become a P/C shipper until I was 12. I was an R/T shipper before that. I also wanted Scarecrow and Mrs. King to get together before that, and Mary McDonnell's character on the sitcom "E.R." with the male doctor that stared with an S, and 86 and 99 on "Get Smart" reruns, and Bruce Willis' character and Cybil Sheppard's Maddie on "Moonlighting," and... you get the point.

Bloody hell, 13 years ago? Well I was 12 when I saw it which was 11 years ago, but the UK was behind in showing TNG. I only had a passing interest in Trek at this point - I started watching in the 7th season (the reason I have an odd affection for a lot of episodes that people love to hate!). Watching All Good Things... had me hooked when they started showing TNG from the beginning again. It was just that good!

So what's the normal age to become a Geordi/Data slasher? 14, 16?

Damn, I was close to 40 when this episode aired. This is yet another thread reminding me of my own mortality.

All my kids watched the entire series with me except for my son who wasn't born until 1992. But he watched it from the day he was born. Someday all you kids will be the older generation and my children will make up the next wave.

Data's head snaps up in shock.

RIKER
(continuing)
I'm kidding.

Data collects the cards and begins shuffling at normal
speed. Beverly looks thoughtful.

BEVERLY
I've been thinking... about all
the things the Captain told us
about the future. The way we
changed and drifted apart... why
would he tell us what's to come?

GEORDI
It sure goes against everything
we've heard about not polluting
the time line...

DATA
I believe, however, that this
situation is unique.

They all look at him.

DATA
(continuing)
Since the temporal anomaly did not
occur, there have already been
changes in the way this time line
is unfolding. The future we
experience will undoubtedly be
different from the one the Captain
encountered.

RIKER
Maybe that's why he told us.
Knowing what that future could
bring... gives us a chance to
change things now.

He gives Worf a meaningful look.

RIKER
(continuing)
So that some things never happen.

Worf nods in understanding.

RIKER
Come.

The doors open and Picard ENTERS. Everyone reacts in
surprise, sits up at attention.

Surprised but pleased looks go around the table.

Picard takes a seat at the table. Data gives him the
deck of cards.

DATA
Would you care to deal?

Picard nods. His experience has left him with a new
appreciation of his feelings for these people... his
crew... his family...

PICARD
So. Five card stud, nothing wild.
The sky's the limit.

As Picard continues dealing, we PULL BACK for one final
look at this family of characters...

CUT TO:

139 EXT. SPACE - THE ENTERPRISE - PRESENT (OPTICAL)

The great ship moving off into the distance...

I can never decide between All Good Things and What You Leave Behind. DS9's is more emotional as it was the last time you saw those great characters, but All Good Things was (almost - First Contact) the last good thing with the TNG characters in it.

No, no, I'm quite sorry; it can't be thirteen years. I remember watching the finale in its first run and that was only maybe five or six years ago. I'm quite sure of that. Not anything near thirteen years.

I always loved TNG, Often times dreaming of starships and exploring space is what kept me awake in class because I sure as hell wasnt paying attention to the teacher.

TNG was an after school ritual for me, even my mother knew Homework came AFTER Star Trek.

I was 12 when AGT aired, whever I watch it now I have a hard time thinking of a better moment in Star Trek. The episode tied 7 years of legacy together perfectly, from Q to the relationships between the crew members. Beautifully performed by all the cast and the final scene "The skys the limit" as the Enterprise soars triumphantly off into space in my opinion is one of the greatest moments in Sci-Fi period.

Wow... I can't believe it's been that long. This episode was actually the one that got me really hooked on TNG. Strange, isn't it? I hadn't seen most of the series at that point... just a few stray episodes of season 6 and 7... and the viewers choice marathon. This episode got me addicted and that summer I watched as many episodes as I could.

My viewing experience was sort of amusing too. The plan was to watch it with a bunch of friends at school on the big TV in the main lounge area. We got there and realized we couldn't change the channel! There was much panic as someone was called to bring a universal remote from home. It didn't work. We ended up running to get to one of the dorms to watch it on a dinky little 20 inch TV mounted in the corner, with bad reception.

Anyway... excellent episode. I often list it as my favorite.

I really liked the moment when Picard joins the poker game. "Five card stud, nothing wild. The sky's the limit."
