Hancock!!!!!!

Does not compute. :wtf:

X2. Someone is living OUTSIDE of reality.

Will Smith is in the list of Top 5 most bankable stars in Hollywood.
I'm just saying, most movies I've seen starring Will Smith are only about Will Smith's character.

I also know that I don't like him. No matter how many different characters he plays, he just seems like Will Smith to me.

I think your dislike of Will Smith is clouding your perception of the characters he plays. Plus, he's usually the main character in many of the movies he stars, so your argument is without logic there :wtf: (i.e. Ali, Pursuit of Happyness, I, Robot)

it's not a comic-book character. it's an original story using a superhero, like "My Super-Ex Girlfriend"

Ok, but it's still part of the superhero genre. I think there might be a bit of a burnout going on with that, even though the one movie I'm looking foward to this summer is another Superhero movie, The Dark Knight.

^That's my whole point. He's almost never a part of an ensemble (I'd be shocked if he were ever in a film where he was not the main character), so all of his movies are going to be all about Will. And I just dislike his acting style and have been disappointed by so many of him movies that I'm sick of watching him.

Here's a thought -- don't see a Will Smith movie. Problem solved.

Personally, I roll my eyes at everyone who believes that Al Pachino, Jack Nicholson and Robert DeNiro are such greats. All three play the same character in every movie (especially Nicholson).

How many have you seen? In the Bad Boys films, the Men in Black films, and The Wild Wild West, Smith plays a member of a 2-man team and the story revolves around their partnership -- although it's true that Smith is cast as the everyman/viewpoint member of the team in the Sonnenfeld films. In Independence Day, Smith was just one member of a large ensemble of characters, and was about equal in importance with Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman. Six Degrees of Separation is more of an ensemble piece, I gather, although Smith's character is the catalyst.

And as I said, how it is remotely unique for a movie star's movies to focus primarily on him? How many John Wayne movies didn't focus primarily on Wayne's character? How many Hope-Crosby movies didn't focus on Hope and Crosby? Honestly, this is a bizarre thing to use as a criticism.

I also know that I don't like him. No matter how many different characters he plays, he just seems like Will Smith to me.

Again, that's not a meaningful criticism. John Wayne always seemed like John Wayne. Jimmy Stewart always seemed like Jimmy Stewart. Katharine Hepburn always seemed like Katharine Hepburn. Bogie and Bacall always seemed like Bogie and Bacall. There are two kinds of movie stars, those who are very good at playing a wide range of different roles and those who are very good at playing a single character type. Smith has mainly made his name as the latter, although he's shown with Six Degrees and Ali that he's capable at the former as well.

Apparently the film is even darker and more adult than the ad campaign suggests; it needed to tone down a number of elements of the story to avoid an R rating.

Suddenly my interest in this movie has approximately tripled.

Still, I'm gonna wait for reviews/word of mouth just to make sure it isn't some kind of dopey comedic misfire, which this premise could very easily turn out to be.

Have you seen Jersey Girl? He's in the movie all of five minutes.

I don't see them anymore. I pretty much avoid Will Smith as much as I can.

I only saw "I am Legend" because I really enjoyed the book, and that movie turned out to be a load of crap.

Then why are you bothering to read this thread and post repeatedly in it? If you want to avoid him, shouldn't that include not talking or thinking about him? If you make the effort to follow a thread that's specifically about a Will Smith movie, and then go out of your way to gripe repetitively in that thread about how much you hate him, that's not exactly avoidance.

I only continue posting because people like you can't help but argue with me, but I'll leave if you're going to take so much offense to my opinions. Have fun with your movie.

Will Smith doesn't write the movies so you can't blame him and his acting should not be in question either...2 time Oscar nominated (ones a fluke, two ain't).

So... you deliberately enter a thread about a topic you hate in order to tell people that you hate it, and then you continue posting in order to perpetuate the argument you expected to provoke. I believe that's called trolling.
