Hammer and Depp for Lone Ranger?

And this is the first time I've realised he's Armie as oppose to Arnie hammer!

What kind of sick bastards name their son Armand Hammer?

People who are beddy beddy rich because of an ancestor named Armand Hammer. I'd name my kid Finkle McBinkle McGillicuddy if I had a grandpa by that name that left me a fortune! (I do have one grandpa named "Cornelius," but he didn't leave me enough money to stick any kid with that name!!!)

The current Mr. Hammer seems to be the result of some sort of breeding campaign to exchange portions of the family fortune for mates whose DNA code for tallness, blondness and gorgeousness. :rommie: Not that I am unappreciative of the result. Most rich people just spend their money on crap like yachts. Good for the Hammers for performing a public service!

I've never heard of Hammer until now, but hopefully if this does well, we will be getting many more Westerns.

Based on his short stint on Reaper, he has comic talent. I hope this role has at least a semicomic aspect to it. What a waste of the lead actors if it doesn.t

^ I'd be surprised if there wasn't a tongue-in-cheek Pirates of the Carribean aspect to it.

(Sadly not Armie's tongue in your cheek, Tennis)

Looks like it might happen after all.

For the first time since Deadline broke the shocking news that Disney had pulled the plug because of a huge budget on the Gore Verbinski-directed The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, insiders tell me that things are starting to look up for the film and there is now optimism that the picture might actually get made.

...

Verbinski’s difficult challenge has been to pare costs while retaining the spectacle that made the movie worth making in the first place. Bruckheimer, Depp and Verbinski have all made salary concessions to get the film made. We should have an answer shortly, but don’t be surprised if The Lone Ranger rides again.
I'm still rooting for it, especially since there's apparently such love for the subject matter that the producer, director and star are willing to take salary cuts to get it made. If they love it so much, hey, it might actually not suck.

"retaining the spectacle that made the worth making the first place"?

It's the Lone Ranger. It's supposed to be a western.

Why am getting a "Wild Wild West" vibe all of a sudden?

When I saw “Hammer” I thought it meant M.C. Hammer and I was thinking this would be a must-see awesome team-up.
I can sort of see it working . . .

Salary cuts and maybe practical effects for the Indian mysticism and werewolves.

Depp gets what Depp wants.

Disney has finally reached a meeting of the minds on The Lone Ranger with director Gore Verbinski, Johnny Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The studio is expected to formalize a new start date imminently and announce it is moving forward and putting Depp back in the saddle as Tonto, with Armie Hammer as the title character.
Armie Hammer is sure one lucky sucker. He's got no clout at all, but he's got a guy playing "second billing" who is getting his star vehicle made despite all obstacles, and that same guy is going to be the one putting butts in seats. Wow. :rommie:
