Halo 3: ODST

Is the game both Halo 3 and the expansion game? or just a standalone? Because I don't have Halo 3 and if this is both games I would get it.

Single player is a different game. My understanding is that multiplayer is a second disc and is cross-compatible with Halo 3.

The three Halos are by far my all time favorite shooter so I'll definitely get this. Also the New Mobassa levels were my favorite levels of the entire trilogy probably so an entire game of that is awesome! I'm also intrigued by the open world format. ... So what exactly is Halo Reach? Another FPS?

I'm not paying $60 for an expansion pack, and it's taken too long to reach release. No.

Nobody is paying $60 for "just" an expansion pack. It's essentially a full game. You have a new (albeit short) campaign + an exact copy of what originally came with Halo 3 + every map pack released over LIVE + 3 exclusive maps only available on the ODST MP disc (making a grand total of 24 maps) + a new co-op mode called Firefight. (Also included is the Halo Reach MP Beta, though that's more of a bonus and shouldn't be considered toward the value, IMO).

That's no mere expansion pack. Now, of course the argument that if you want it you are forced to also get what you likely already have anyway (Halo 3 MP) is reasonable. But the package in and of itself, I'd say is worth the $60.

And no, I'm not on M$'s payroll. ;)
No, thats pretty much an expansion pack + crap that everyone already owns.

Where's the disagreement? You say no, but then restate my point in a nutshell. We both agree it's more than just an expansion pack. And that's why the price is what it is.

There is extremely little in the way of new content.
I never stated otherwise. But that fact is for the most part irrelevant in determining the product's price. If you want to be upset at them, be upset that the new content is only available if you buy that ODST + Halo 3 MP package, not that that package costs $60. Because for that amount of content, the "full game" price makes sense.

Yep. Right you are clint q. I see 90% repackaged content there and a short campaign. That's an expansion pack ... not a new game.

Just because it's repackaged doesn't make it non-existent. The "expansion pack" itself is only 10% of the whole package, using your own numbers.

Now, I agree that it's unfair that Microsoft/Bungie are forcing us to also purchase the entire preexisting Halo 3 MP also (adding cost to the product) when we buy ODST, whether we want it or not. We should at least have the option of just purchasing the new content, at a cheaper price. I'm just saying what they cobbled together is technically a "full game", despite the fact that a good bulk of the content is already out there.

So what exactly is Halo Reach? Another FPS?

Yep. But beyond that fact all we know is that it takes place on the planet Reach (and I would presume it's about The Fall of said planet), and that there's a multiplayer portion to the game (considering ODST owners get an invite to the Reach MP Beta). Also, the President of Bungie suggested that the game might implement the upcoming Natal accessory in some fashion.

You say its a full game. It isnt. Its an expansion pack with rehashed content. thats completely different from what you said

I love Halo so I'll be getting it.

I must say though I was under the impression it was a whole new single player campaign, I take it the single player game is quite short?

The fact that some of the content is rehashed doesn't change the fact that it's there, and is a factor in MS determining what degree of game it is and its price. That's all I'm saying.

The wording was different, but we were both talking about the same thing. I just went into detail, and stuck to the plain facts about what's in there. Hey, I agree that we shouldn't be forced to also pay for what most of us who want ODST already have. Just playing Devil's Advocate.

Yep. Bungie expects it to take one 3-5 hours to get through it.

Fact is, its an expansion pack with rehashed content attached. Don't glorify it.

No shit, man. It's funny how I was immediately attacked for being negative and calling it an expansion pack. Yet everything I've read that's being used as a counterargument seems to scream "EXPANSION PACK!" And 3-5 hours? Please. In fact, I've seen expansion packs with more content than this alleged "full game". All the Neverwinter Nights packs threw in 20-30 hour campaigns, add-ons, new skins, modules, graphics, maps, etc. And even the Oblivion DLC KotN had more content than this.

I wasn't. At last that wasn't my intent.

Attacked? I'm the only one who replied to your post, and I never attacked you. None of what I posted was even about you.

All of the new content together is essentially an expansion pack. But it's not just the "expansion pack". Eh, maybe I'm just being too literal (in that the MP is not an expansion). I often do that. Just forget it. :shifty:

The new campaign in and of itself was never referred to as a "full game". At least not that I know of.

Sorry for derailing the thread. :(

Hmmm, on topic:

Anyone else gonna try to finish the rest of the Vidmaster Achievements included with ODST in order to get Recon?

This would be comparable if "Halo ODST" was Halo 2 Vista ported to the 360 + Halo 3 + All the maps + the new campaign. Oh, throw in Halo Wars as well.

It is interesting that you brought up the orange box though because this is almost exactly like Half-Life 2 Episode 1. Except its 60 bucks
