Hair pieces.

Indeed you'd be surprised how much minor changes in hairstyle can conceal receding hairlines.

Interesting. I just started watching season 1 and one of my first thoughts was "whoa...he's going bald!" I'll have to pay attention to how they hide it over the next 7 years of the show.

lol Don't be so nit picking what does it matter?
Also you act as if its a complex thing to hide, it's just a matter of how you style it

Haha. I'm not taking it that seriously. I've just always had an amateurish interest in how they make actors look the way they do on-screen. I think I was Michael Westmore in another life. But, more importantly, someday when I go bald maybe I can learn hide it by employing the Tom Paris hairstyles!

You can do it with any hairstyle if its just receding temples like Tom had its just a matter of brushing the sides a certan way.

I woudln't find it a big deal that a case member had one, and didn't notice Kes did, I did find it mad that P.Stewart had to have one in the end of generations, the bald guy needs a hair peice in a scene when he still looks bald, the irony

It is curious that a number of people think Robbie (Tom) wore a hair piece, because I never noticed anything that might indicate a hair piece.

I loved all of B'Elanna's hair pieces especially in that episode "Real Life", I believe, where she has a braid in her hair intertwined with a maroon colored ribbon, she looked lovely! Her crimped/curly wig was a nice a change and I thought it looked good.

I always thought Kate (janeway) had natural hair, I did not know it was a wig. It was always so long and pretty, at least in the first couple of seasons anyway.

I liked Be'Lanna's permed hair wig too. I never seemed right that someone Klingon would have completely straight hair.

Agreed on B'Ellana's hair/wig. That's why I'm trying to make my hair look like hers..I like the style. :D:D:D:D:D:D Anyway, I prefer Kes with the longer hair..she looked lovely. And of course, when Kate chopped her hair off in year four, she was rebelling with the producers. I read in a magazine somewhere where she hated her extensions/bun because she had to wear it 18+ hours a day and it made her neck sore. So she chopped it off..from what I read, she really ticked off the producers when she did it. But I don't blame her. They were always changing her hair style! :)

Kes with a Afro.? Very interesting.

Would she look like Moma Cas,with it.?
She better stick with her sexy, short wig.

Come on, Kes would be Voyager's phychic Soul Sista' w/ the afro and some bell bottom jeans.

Tell me you can't picture her shakin' her booty to "Shake Your Groove Thang" by Peaches & Herb?

Kate filmed with her real hair in "Caretaker." They decided on the bun and reshot this scene.

Oh my goodness, she looks great there with her natural hair. WHY did they change it?! The bun was fine but so was her natural hair, it looks more....oh how do I say it?......natural!!!

I agree with the Klingon/Straight hair comment because it seems more natural that her hair would be crimpy/curly. IN the scenes in 'Lineage' of B'Elanna as a child her hair was crimpy/curly when she was little. In any case B'Elanna's hair is totally sexy. I am so glad they ditched the thick eyebrows look after the first few seasons! :techman:

I totally agree, she looks awesome!

Where did you get that pic???

Wow she looks amazing in that picture.:drool::drool:
I never really liked the "bun of steel". What a shame they didn't let her use her normal hair.

I didn't necessarily mind the "bun of steel" as you playfully call it;) but I prefer her hair down and around her face. I think with the bun they were looking for a more "professional and serious" look for Janeway.

Didn't someone say before that they didn't use her normal hair because it was too 'thin' or not 'full' enough? I don't see how they could think that because in this picture her hair looks lovely and quite full of body.

I really agree here. She looks great in her normal hairdo.

Maybe they changed her hairdo because she looked younger and to sexy to be in charge of a Starship.
The bun made her look older and more like a business woman or an old time school teacher.

She would have been different, thats for sure thats for dang sure.
She would have been a better mate for Neelix.
Being such a great actor,I am sure that she would have done a great job of it.After all he was a real professional. and did comedy as well as serious acting.Look at Elogium.

Yep, that was the reasoning.

The trouble with hair like Kate's (and for that matter, like Jeri's, and mine... :p ) is that it's too fine to hold a 'do for any length of time. They'd have to seriously work on her hair before every scene to keep it consistent throughout the episode.

BTW, as much as Kate hated the wig, it saved her natural hair from too much abuse. The heat of blowdryers and electric rollers on top of coloring it is seriously damaging to fine hair.

You can really see the damage to Jeri's hair in "Natural Law" when the updo comes down.

Ahhh yes, good point, that never occured to me. Fine hair does struggle to stay put for a period of time. Mine is like Hermione-hair, so frizzy and bushy unless I blow dry my hair and use a stright iron on it and if I hairspray it the thing won't move for days:techman:

Yeah, seven years of blow drying, curlers, coloring, and hairspray would do a number on Kate's beautiful hair. So, in a way, she was lucky.

Might not even take that long...

Tricia Helfer switched to a wig in season 2 of BSG because her hair was so damaged it was breaking off in chunks.

Yikes, reminds me of a winter a few years ago here in Colorado when I made the mistake of going outside with wet hair in sub-zero temperatures and pieces of my hair literally snapped off. :(

So as uncomfortable and itchy as that wig might have been, I am sure Kate was happy in the end because she still had her naturally beautiful hair;) Luckily she didn't have to suffer alone with the wig issue, Roxann, Ethan, and Jennifer were right there with her!
