Ya have to! I had just watched Apollo 13 about a week earlier. It was meant as a sign of respect. One of the unsung heroes of NASA.

I watched Apollo 13 a couple weeks ago too, in honor of the anniversary of that tragedy. Even bought the BD of it for the occasion.

I love how the Apollo astronauts and the pad leader would exchange gifts beofre the launch. As oldest among the astronauts, Al Shepard received a walking cane, or ('officially') Lunar Explorer Support Equipment, from Wendt

Didn't one of the crews - possibly one with Tom Stafford on it, as he had to go up and then down again an awful lot due to cancelled launches - give Wendt a massive six foot foam spanner labelled 'In case you need this to make it work this time...'?
