Guns to be allowed on Texas campuses

This is wonderful news! Colleges and universities in Texas are allowing students to carry guns now, if they recieve proper training. It's nice to know the system works from time to time. Now we need this to pass nation-wide. The bad guys already have guns, it's time we let the good guys have them too. Oh and before any liberals who want to ban guns come into this thread, you should know that you are six times more likely to get mugged and 53% more likely to get robbed in London (where guns are banned): http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/2656875.stm

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas is preparing to give college students and professors the right to carry guns on campus, adding momentum to a national campaign to open this part of society to firearms.

More than half the members of the Texas House have signed on as co-authors of a measure directing universities to allow concealed handguns. The Senate passed a similar bill in 2009 and is expected to do so again. Republican Gov. Rick Perry, who sometimes packs a pistol when he jogs, has said he's in favor of the idea.

Texas has become a prime battleground for the issue because of its gun culture and its size, with 38 public universities and more than 500,000 students. It would become the second state, following Utah, to pass such a broad-based law. Colorado gives colleges the option and several have allowed handguns.

Supporters of the legislation argue that gun violence on campuses, such as the mass shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007 and Northern Illinois in 2008, show that the best defense against a gunman is students who can shoot back.

Personally I have no issue with it as long as permits are required and distributed on a 'shall issue' basis with the provision that the holder is thoroughly scrutinized and has proper training.

^ And as long as they keep those guns away from fraternity row...imagine all those guys being drunk AND armed?

Seriously? Imo, something like this should be taken to TNZ, but that's up to the mods.

Especially since the OP slags off liberals and it seems, anyone else who wants to argue with him, by posting a 7-year old article. Solid proof indeed.

As for my stance on the issue, I don't mind people defending themselves, but allowing them to have guns? That will cause more harm than good, through accidents, and criminals will be more used to guns than some student who picks up a pistol to look cool in 1st year, which'll result in more deadly standoffs.
Also, too many people will take the law into their own hands, which could easily escalate the wrong way.

Finally, your screen name. Is it a coincidence that the bad guy in COD:MW2 has the same name?

Sorry, couldn't let it pass. ;)

So, if you don't mind, I'm quite happy over here in my gun-free country.

Yeah, sorry, but i'm not too happy about the thought of teens and twenties armed on campus. You don't have to be in a fraternity to get shit faced drunk in college which is what so many of them do. And now they'll be armed? Christ, sorry this sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ask me. Hormonal drunk kids. With guns? Oy.

ETA: Shit the more i think about this the more upset i get. Suicides will go up too, i'm sure. I'm really not happy about this. Keeping my daughter out of any colleges in Texas will be my plan.
