Guls Macet and Dukat. Theories?

I am not Spock

There is an uncanny resemblance between the two, isn't there? ;) Though, one of them has appalling fashion sense (that silly headpiece thingy).

What's the deal with them? Brothers? Long-lost relatives? And also, there is a Romulan seen in TNG 'The Neutral Zone', an Antican in TNG 'Lonely Among Us', and a 19th century card shark who all obviously have Cardassian blood in their ancestry. :)

And Nick Locarno sure is the spitting image of the similarly delinquent troublemaker Tom Paris...

In the DS9 relaunch novels they make Dukat and Macet cousins. Not sure if it appeared there first or in another novel.

They have a little inside joke in Fearful Symmetry when they mention Danar and that he could pose as a Klingon, Romulan or human, which refers to that actors various guest spots in various Trek series.

The first mention of Macet's kinship with Dukat was in Demons of Air and Darkness, which was indeed a DS9 relaunch book, as well as part of the Gateways series.

I should know this...I use Macet as one of my characters in my fanfic, and continue the "cousin" assumption (though I add to it, in my case, the idea that Macet's father came from a different Cardassian ethnic group than his mother, which explains the great differences in skin tone and ridging pattern from the more typical Cardassian).

Yep, identical cousins, in the great Soap Opera tradition.

Yeah, it's definitely funny in a soap opera way.

Though weird stuff can happen in real life, if you'll pardon me veering a bit off topic... ;)

If you looked at me and my first cousin, and saw only our mothers, I could almost bet money people would match us incorrectly. I look like my aunt, and my cousin looks like my mom. It becomes immediately clear which of us is which when you bring in the fathers, though.

Had one of us actually ended up looking like our mother, instead of our aunt, I have to wonder just how much we would've resembled each other.

I missed that! Is it on side 2? I looked through side 1 for it. Can I has a page number plez?

More like The Patty Duke Show, in space! It would've made more sense to make them identical twins, with Macet growing that funky facial hair to distinguish him from his infamous brother. -- RR

My aunt once mistook me for her son.

In her right mind, I'm assuming?
Of course. My cousin and I looked a lot alike. Once she got a better look she realised her mistake. Still she was amazed how much we looked alike. I was visiting from out of state and she hadn't seen me since I was about 8 years old.

I thought it was hillarious the episode in which they got Jeffery Combs to play Brunt AND Weyoun. In the same episode.

I wonder if he got paid twice.

Would have been better, and I know it would have made little sense to have done it, but still, if they'd had them in the same scene and someone commented on their uncanny resemblance...

Yep.

They are cousins.

When they were kids, they would spend summers together on Bajor, laughing while watching old people worked to death.

Oh, those were the days!!!!!

Speaking of similar inside references, another novel had Gul Macet and Commander Tebok (both played by Marc Alaimo) at diplomatic conference in the Neutral Zone.
