Guest Actors Who Could Have Carried a Series

Mark Lenard, Frank Gorshin, Ricardo Montalban, Dean Stockwell (he might have made a better Archer!), Kurtwood Smith, Peter Weller, Ronny Cox, and Malcolm McDowell would all have been capable of carrying a series.


James Cromwell, Marc Alaimo, Andrew Robinson,Tony Todd, JG Hertzler, Jeffrey Combs, Vaughn Armstrong, and Robert Oreilly, were all secondary characters who also could have each carried a series, as well.

Interesting topic, but I think what would make the topic more interesting is WHICH CHARACTERS since memorable guest stars are memorable because of the way they performed a character and performed it in an outstanding fashion might've made for a more successful series. Good actors transcend bad material, but with the right material, good actors become great and pierce the soul of pop culture.

We all know John Colicos could carry a series. I enjoyed him as Baltar on BSG, but is the character strong enough to carry a series on his own? I'm inclined to think not since the few episodes I saw of original BSG feature Baltar as, pretty much, a mustache twister. Maybe I need to rewatch the series, but I didn't get much from him as far as why he betrayed the human race.

Kor, on the other hand, isn't simply a mustache twister. There's a little more going on with this character. I wanted to get into this guy's head a little more. I got the same impression of Kang.

[Captain Clark Terrell]

I got the same impression of Kang.

Kang was a fascinating character played by a great actor. I'd love to read a Captain's Table-type story about him (not meant to be a story idea). I actually think he shares a number of similarities with the Romulan Commander (Mark Lender) from "Balance of Terror" in that he's more thoughtful and deliberate than many of his peers and doesn't make rash decisions.
