Guess who's 21 today? ;)

*points thumb at self* Yup! It's about time too! Now I can stop complaining at college parties and SCA post-revels that I ain't old enough to drink anymore!

Plans for the rest of the day: go somewhere to buy booze (because I can) and a lottery ticket (because I forgot to do that when I turned 18) and then go out to dinner with family and some friends and have my first legal drink while I'm at it. And I've invited all my other friends to come play laser tag with me this weekend (and maybe take me to get drunk afterwards).

Just because you can get piss-drunk doesn't mean you should.

Disclaimer aside, have a blast you only turn 21 once. :D

Happy birthday, K-Star. :)

Yes, try not to celebrate your birthday with hospitalisation for alcohol poisoning - many do!

Happy birthday! I suggest tequila. :bolian:

I have to say, I don't really recall this ever being an issue. Do they card at parties now? :vulcan:

WOW! I wished I was 21 again as well! I'd be in college again. I got my first drink that day as well..got a little tipsy but not really drunk. Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY and don't do something I wouldn't do! ;)

Happy Birthday, K-Star.

I hope you enjoy your first legal drink-- but I must warn you, they taste a lot better when they're not legal. :D

I actually had my first legal drink when I was eighteen, which was the drinking age in Connecticut at the time. In Massachusetts, where I lived, it was twenty. So I could only drink legally when I was visiting my friends. :rommie:

The only thing stopping me from going down to vegas is that Im not 21. Damned American laws are a pain in the arse I tell you :p By the time I turn 21 Ill have been drinking in Canadian bars for 3 years.

Anyways, enough of my ranting, Happy Birthday :)

So tonight I learned how alcohol affects me. Had two drinks tonight: a strawberry margarita with dinner and a strawberry acai Smirnoff with dessert. My only reaction: I started sweating. That's it. No mental change or loss of balance. Probably because with my weight I'd have to drink significantly more than that to really feel an effect. ;)

And to be honest, I definitely preferred the Smirnoff over the margarita.

Gosh I wish I was 21 again, sigh, roll on 30....

Hell, I wish I was 30 again. Wishing for 21 would be pushing it.

As for you K Star, you wet behind the ears whippersnapper, happy birthday kid.:bolian:

But, no drinking and driving!

I barely remember my 21st birthday... but that's only because it wasn't anything special. Legal drinking age is 19 here. :D I was legally drinking before I was out of high school!

Anyway, happy birthday K-Star. Hope you had fun tonight, even if you didn't get plastered. ;) I'm just glad to hear that you didn't do that "21 shots on your 21st birthday" thing -- those don't often end well.

Don't worry... Dad drove tonight and I'm probably gonna save the number for STRIPES (the free transportation service for students at my school) in my contacts when I go back to school. I refuse to attempt driving even after one drink, despite the fact that I felt no different afterwards (except some sweating.)

Next time you hit the bar, order a Mind Eraser or 2, it's more than just a clever name... :shifty:

Happy B-Day

Wait, it's illegal for you guys to drink alcohol before 21?! :cardie:

I thought it was just that you are not allowed to purchase alcohol, you can drink it from age 5 upwards in the UK.

21 for purchasing and consumption.

Why the hell would a 5-year old need to consume alcohol?

Well, my mum used to put whiskey in my cough mixture when I was a toddler :D

Seriously however, they don't need to, most parents can exercise reasonable discretion in deciding when their children should be allowed to drink alcohol though. Seems like legislating this is unnecessary, and when you're talking about telling parents they can't let their 14 year old kid have a glass of wine in their own house, completely unreasonable.
