You know, the one with the successful movie career could easily leave the show. So why is the one that doesn't have a lot on the resume the one who wants to leave?

^ That actually happens quite often. Certain actors think they can do better then their current gig.

Or maybe he just isn't the type to just come to work everyday, have a few non-important lines and then collect a big paycheck.. for the entire season he wasn't important at all and barely had a storyline on his own or with someone together.

I can understand him.. from 1st tier character in an ensemble to be "demoted" to guest star is not something everyone can stomach.

I'll be sad when it becomes official, i.e. the season premiere but on the other hand this probably means that Izzy will stay which makes me truly happy. I don't think Greys would be the same with her bubbly personality and her infectious smile.

While I can understand and respect that, a steady paycheck is still a steady paycheck, especially in the current economic situation.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Heigl, so I really want her to stay.

Pretty much as I suspected then. Good to hear about Jessica Capshaw being kept on an essentially promoted.

I loved that bit where she declared to the chief that she was going to fight him for Bailey, sobbing the whole time since she was so angry

I'm sad to hear George is going, too, though I figured if they made an effort to hang on to one of them, it wouldn't be him. George really didn't have a lot of stories this season, and it was a shocker the way they chose to kill him off. Man.

I do hope Izzie stays, though. I thought she had a great storyline this season. It's hard to imagine two characters being killed off at the same time! It's pretty daring, though, if that does turn out to be what happened.

Either way, I can't wait for season six!

Creator Shonda Rhimes doesn't seem to admit when things go wrong, or don't end up the way they were planned (there have been other cast changes that created controversy, but she never likes to talk about it as such). She always remains very professional in her interviews, and I remember her claiming that this year's finale was planned from the beginning. I can't help but wonder if George's demise really was conceived at the beginning of the season, or if the actor just really wanted to leave (as rumored). If in fact the plan was always to kill the character off, I wonder if George was marginalized on purpose, as to make his death more shocking (since everyone was so focused on Izzie's front-burner brain tumor storyline, and expected her to die instead of him).

I've read some of Rhimes' interviews. She didn't come across very well when confronted with storylines that fell flat on that show (not-ghost Denny, for example). A lot of denial, a lot of "you haven't seen the whole picture yet" sort of responses.

Rumors have it that T.R. Knight began his criticism even during season 4 and season 5 had him even less screentime and he began to "rebel" openly.

As far as i've read about Rimes she's not the person who takes criticism well but she rules the show and what she decides becomes reality so TR Knight kicking her shin might have gotten him his wish and release from the show.
