GREEN LANTERN might have found villain actor. Possibly homosexual.

I've never really thought of Sinestro as an American, but Haley's a very good actor, so one imagines he'll do a good job.

Y'know, it took me until the end of the thread, but I finally got the joke in the OP. Nice one. :D

Out of everyone, I think I like Weaving the best. I think he has the delivery I would imagine Sinestro having.

Plus the fact that Weaving looks a bit alien to begin with.

Doug Jones has a similar problem. He was Abe Sapien in the Hellboy films and the Silver Surfer in the last Fantastic Four film. So now he corners the market when it comes to playing hairless humanoids.

No Jackie for me...I still have Victor Gerber's voice stuck in my head after watching First Flight and I think he'd do a pretty good job as a live action Sinestro. Jason Issacs would be a good choice, stick with Michael Madsen as CGI Kilowog!

Is this supposed to be in the script or was that just your own suggestion?
Supposedly it's actually in the script, although the initial rumor was that it's a Clark Kent cameo rather than a Superman one. Marc Guggenheim, one of the screenwriters, has said they put a number of such appearances and references in the script, but that there's no telling what will actually make it on screen.

aintitcoolnews is also running this story and the Superman cameo too; the implication is that DC is looking at the way Marvel is creating a single universe for all its characters. I personally would like to see Routh return. I know there's been talk og a recast and re-boot of the Superman franchise. But it would seem very odd to hire a new actor for a new series of movies then intro him in a cameo in another superhero flick.

On the original topic, I've looked at Sinestro on Wikipedia. I see that his appearance was based on that of David Niven. Timothy Dalton, Jason Isaacs, Alan Rickman or the likes might be more obvious choices. But then again, Heath Ledger, Ian McKellen, Cillian Murphy and others have shown that you can make a great movie super-villain without looking exactly like your comic-strip equivalent, so I won't complain.

Edit - http://chud.com/articles/articles/21194/1/RORSCHACH-vs-GREEN-LANTERN/Page1.html

There's a suggestion here that JEH is actually playing another character, the main villain. Sinestro will appear but will not turn bad until the end. Might this make more sense?

^^^
The thought occurred to me that that he might actually be up for Hector Hammond and that the rumor mill got its wires crossed. He's a more natural fit to play Hammond, although he could be a good Sinestro if they go for a vibe for the character that's a bit different to the traditional one.

What's the gay reference? Haley isn't gay, and I don't think Sinestro is either.

Rorschach voiceover in Watchmen, a role played by Haley:

"Meeting with Veidt left bad taste in mouth. He is pampered and decadent, betraying even his own shallow, liberal affectations. Possibly homosexual? Must remember to investigate further."

Just to point out one thing: Sinestro is not gay. In recent issues of GL, it's revealed that he was in love with Abin Sur's sister, Arin Sur. Both returned from the dead as Black Lanterns. Good times.

I would've preferred someone more...sinister than JEH. Dafoe, Christopher Walken, maybe even Ralph Fiennes.

Oh yeah, I forgot: Ben Kingsley was mentioned. He'd be PERFECT as Abin Sur.

Weaving sounds more like a Guardian to me.

I always picture Sinestro sounding like Alan Rickman.

Must investigate further.

Jackie Earl Haley, last seen as the vigilante superhero Rorshach in this year's Watchmen and seen next as Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, is apparently the top contender to don the green and black tights as the villainous Sinestro in the Ryan Reynolds starrer Green Lantern from Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell.

My take? I'm kind of sick of all the "Jackie Earl Haley for Everything" mentality going on these days. Yeah, he's a talented actor good at playing dysfunctional creepy guys, and I offer him congrats on his career comeback, but I was envisioning someone like David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum) or Ben Kingsley as Sinestro. Haley is a perfectly suitable alternative, though.

What do you guys think?

Would you rather it be Ben Stiller? ;)

*Remember when you couldn't see a movie without Ben Stiller being in it?
