I remember blinking and missing the entire laser disk revolution.

the complete failure of laser disks had me guffaw when DVD's showed up.

but then in all honestly I went from renting video to cable TV missing DVDs as well.

Bluray are not even on my radar.

This movie blew and it got the proper treatment from moviegoers. Simple as that. They could have made this an EPIC movie, the Matrix of this decade, but they blew it.

I agree it should have been more epic, but I don't think if would have made much of a difference with moviegoers. The trailers were already putting most of the emphasis on the alien/outer space stuff, and people still weren't much interested.

I think it probably looked more like a scifi film aimed at nerdy 14 year olds than the kind of mass appeal superhero movie people are used to seeing.

Maybe the movie should have focussed on Carol visiting and playing with her socialite friends on the upper east side of Manhattan, and they unbury dark secrets about their pasts and plot to destroy each other?

"Green Lantern" slipped to 8th place in the top ten and now has earned $110 million domestically. According to the latest numbers at Box Office Mojo it's pulled in $33 million globally. I'll admit those are pretty bad numbers. I expect the DVD sales to be pretty significant though when this does comes out.

I'm not so sure about that, US$33m internationally. Is not a good sign for DVD/Blu-ray sales unless people have decided to wait for the DVD/Blu-ray release rather than see it at the Cinema.

US Domestic might be a different story. If I were the Studio exec I would be dissapointed with that taking, It might have been ok with a storng US box office, but with a poor US box office, I would hope to make it up on the international box office and hopefully have a 60-40 split minimum.

How often does Box Office Mojo update the international take? The $33 million number's a week old.

Looks like the slow spread into overseas markets might bite WB in the ass even harder. With a wider open, they had a chance to bring in more cash earlier, but now as the lukewarm-to-negative word of mouth spreads, the receipts'll no doubt be less than they might have been.

As far as the dvd sales go, you have to remember that there's a Saturday morning cartoon coming out soon.

The kids are going to go apeshit.

If they had timed it better... Although TPTB must have assumed that the good movie would have made the kids go apeshit for the Saturday morning cartoon.

Any cartoon will make a kid demand to see a bad movie. No parent will pay to take a kid to a movie that doesn't relate to their kid in some way.

Is "Green Lantern Animated" slated for "Saturday Morning" though? I thought it was going to be a prime time series but I get your point Guy. Maybe "Green Lantern" would have been better off in a fall release. Right between the summer blockbusters and the upcoming winter blockbusters. It does seem like Warner Bros overestimated this movie's potential now.

I just... do not understand my fellow scifi fans sometimes. I frankly can't think of ANYTHING in GL that was as bad as some of the stuff in Transformers 3.

It's hard to think of any stories outside of hard core porn movies that are dumber than any of the Transformers movies - and porn has the virtue of costing a lot less to make and being less of a time-waster than a Bay movie.

This evening's probably my last chance to see GL in 3D, so I'm going to the late show.

Typically on Tuesday, I think. It is looking likely that by not have a more coordinated simultaneous release it's international take is going to suffer. I believe if what I hear at the BOM forums is right that it doesn't open in Australia till August.

Maybe when the overseas numbers are updated GL will be at $150m worldwide...maybe.

I will agree that First Flight is a much better GL movie given the time constraints they had with it.
I grabbed Emerald Knights off On Demand this weekend, (After several folks, including you, I believe, reccomended it) and loved it. As was said, it was much mroe coherent a story than Gotham Nights.

I'm hoping I'll enjoy Ryan reynolds' Green Lantern as much when it's released.

First Flight, eh? I'll have to look into it as well.

To me Vic Garber will always be the voice of Sinestro I hear when I read dialogue of his in the comics. Mark Strong was good, but Garber to me nailed his voice.

I saw First Flight back in 2009. One of my big disappointments in GL (2011) is that I found First Flight better.

Agreed, although one thing I think the movie DID do better is letting us see some of Hal's surprise and amazement at all the strange, crazy-ass shit he was being introduced to.

In First Flight he seems to have such a blasé attitude toward it all, and we don't even see him learning his powers.
