You're not kidding.

Wow, what a change in tone.

(Also, I'm retitling this thread for obvious reasons.)

I'll admit I have been thinking for months that X-Men First Class and Captain America will be far better than Thor and Green Lantern, and while Thor still looks to be all over the place, this new footage has really increased my interest in Green Lantern.

My previous complaints about this movie's presentation was how generic it looked; it just came across as Superhero Origin Story #58.

This footage is much, much better, and makes use of the GL mythos to change things up a bit.

The new footage is indeed more promising, I'm not 100% convinced but I'm certainly feeling that I need to check it out now. I'm really surprised with how cosmic they've gone with this thing, usually they shy away from that in the mainstream flicks.

Now if they could just tweak the Thor footage to get me interested at all...

The CGI looks MUCH better than the first trailer. I'm less concerned about the movie now. Still don't like the look of Hal's mask/uniform, though.

Liked that they gave us more of the story reveal.
Granted they said the CGI still isn't 100%, cause it looks it in more than a few places, but it was a better trailer. They have another month to get more of the CGI right for the trailer attached to THOR.

It hasn't risen any in my list of films I'm anticipating. The trio of Marvel films still looks better. I'm not dissing GL, cause I'll be there, it's just not won me over yet.

Glad you did this! :techman:
It now looks like it belongs with the other summer movie threads.

Fuck yeah!

What, that's not part of the Oath?

... there's still that annoying Ryan Reynolds guy....

I have no idea what people don't like about Reynolds - I've never paid any attention to him - but he's note perfect as Hal Jordan here.

I've seen him in a few things here and there and he always comes off as a little skeevy/sketchy. And I've always felt like the Studios keep telling me he's a big star when... he's just sorta blah. He's good looking, but, I don't think he's all that interesting to watch.

Now, I think if they had gone with Bradley Cooper, I think that woulda been awesome.

I think what've seen of Reynolds isn't Jordan to me. Jordan is a different kinda cocky. Hal to me is more Han Solo/Malcolm Reynolds cocky than Robert Downy Jr/Iron Man cocky, which is what I see Reynolds trying to do.

^Which is funny because Han Solo is Ryan Reynolds' sort of inspiration for Hal Jordan, at least according to him.

However, I will say I would have preferred Bradley Cooper (and Nathan Fillion in an ideal world, if we're talking about Mal Reynolds...) but I'm perfectly content with Reynolds. If you're curious about his acting chops just watch Buried. He does an incredible performance in that film, and plus, he did a perfectly convincing job in that abridged trailer.

I love Fillion. I don't see him as Jordan at all, and he comes across now as too old for this kind of part, in a big movie like this one.

Reynolds mainly comes across here as completely believable in his dazzled, confused reaction to everything that's happening to him. Selling that aspect of the character at this point is indispensible.

Somebody in the Talkback for this footage at AICN posted that it "kicks ass." I'm stunned, as this may be the first positive, enthusiastic post concerning an upcoming movie that I've ever read in an AICN Talkback. ;)

Yeah, he's to old, I agree.

However, he is doing the voice for Jordan in the most recent GL cartoon.

I guess. It's just in the back of my mind, I remember the other stuff from the previous trailer, "RIGHT?!" that just makes me go... meh.

But, again, the visuals look much better.
