Greatest sci-fi/fantasy character of all time?

I'll give you an example with my pick:

Dracula

My reason: he's probably the most influential character in modern horror fantasy. Basically, a lot of what we think about vampires comes from Bram Stoker's villain. I think he even influenced the creation of Batman.

Dr. Who

He is a (no pun intended) timeless character; he works as well now as he did back in 1963. He appeals to both children and adults, because he not only instills a sense of adventure and wonder, but is also a friend, a guardian and a protector.

He embodies all the best qualities of humanity, but is not human, and therefore can offer comment and insight on the human condition from an outsider's perspective.
