Greatest Comic Book Ressurection Ever?

Hal's ressurection was uneeded and was just plain goofy. A big yellow bug made him go bad. And Hal is STILL boring. I've been collecting both GL titles for the last several years and it rarely occurs to me that Hal is in one, much less GL. Everyone AROUND Hal in his books is interesting.....he isn't. They should just boot his ass out again and rename the book "Sinestro" because he's the most interesting thing in Hal Jordan's book since they brought him back.

Geoff Johns is a great plotter - making good yarns. But I somehow am not enamored with him as a plain ol' writer. Somehow Hal is just too unlikable for me. I don't know why I should root for Hal Jordan! Sure I know why I should root for the Green Lantern (cos he's doing good). Even when he was going thru that torture stuff in Siberia or wherever with Cowgirl and so on... I felt more for the others than Hal.

The only thing that they should do with Sinestro is make his moustache less mua-ha-ha-ha. His appearance takes me out of the book - suspension of disbelief is harder to achieve cos of that mouche!

I hear that the Bucky story is awesome, tho' I'm not a big Marvel reader these days...but big groan when I saw Thanos was coming back.

Marvel needs that cosmic psycho Thanos. Marvel is a very different Universe to DC. Joss Whedon himself commented that's what makes the difference in writing. The DC heroes are way up in the clouds and their opponents are often minor crooks from the street.
Marvel its heroes are often way too down to Earth with ridiculous overwhelming problems.

Yeah Sometimes DC heroes break a sweat, sometimes they face big super aliens and monsters but even then your DC characters often clean up with ease. If Superman faces some alien that moves too fast he just pushes himself to fly faster, if some big giant creature of myth is about to over power and step on her then Wonder Woman just screams 'Hera, give me strength!' lifts harder and then kicks the big monsters butt.

Very few of DC's elite ever really face down to Earth issue like the Xmen do, very few of DC's elite are ever really out classed by their enemies. Maybe the Batman, Green Lantern John Stewart, Green Arrow, Wild Cat and Black Canary have to work extremely hard to earn their hero status but most of DC's other characters are way up in the clouds with the Gods they are overpowered compared to their under powered opponents.

Right now the balance is off in Marvel, usually its hero characters are totally out classed by the bad guys and face overwhelming odds and just by sheer luck manage to keep the bad guys at bay and live to fight another day.
What I mean by Marvel being outclassed is Xavier and Cyclops facing Magneto, Apoclaypse, Phoenix and a bunch of other over powered mutant tenagers with temper tantrums but miracluously hold the bad guys off and live to fight another day. What I mean by outclassed is Peter Parker broke, over loaded with work, trouble with exams, got fired, can't pay the rent and his alter ego Spider-Man is facing down Venom, Electro, Sandman, Goblin and a bunch of other Sinister Six....and somehow miraculously Spider-Man lives to make it through another week.
Its not like Superman where he faces some old version of Darkseid, suffering from arthritis and blows him away with Super Breath.
Spider-Man gets owned every 2nd or 3rd comic, if he's not getting buggered by landlords and Bosses like JJ, he's getting his face bashed up by guys like Goblin. He's not just a hero with powers, Spidey is a real down to Earth NewYorker with real human flaws

Marvel has too many super powered heroes no longer facing overwhelming odds. Thor is back from the dead, he was beating up everyone, almost all his old powerful enemies got themselves dead or are MIA. All Spider-Man's enemies either reformed, died or retired. Venom became a hero for hire, Goblin became a nice hero in an Ironman suit, Carnage got tore apart by the Sentry (Marvel's version of Superman on steroids). Like Superman the Sentry can beat anyone, the deck once again is stacked in favor of Marvel's heroes unless the writers push him down to road where in fits into that box called 'I'm no longer a hero but a psycho nuisance'. The Abomination got himself dead, Jack O'Lantern shot, the Xmen enemies Sinister dead, Sabretooth dead, Omega red dead and their cosmic enimies the Shiar Emperors....most of them blew up or are in a big cosmic prison. Then Silver Surfer came back and has been blasting away all the bad guys from Earth to Wolf359/Romulus without ever breaking a sweat

Thanos is needed just because that's the way Marvel away worked, good guys always out classed and out numbered by the bad guys.

Plus there's something creepy and engrossing about that whole Thanos story. A fascinating cosmic bad guy who wants to dominate the Galaxy and has a desire to bone Death.

Barry Allen should have been left alone; I believe it's ruined one of the greatest and most poignant deaths in comics history.

Yeah I agree, I missed the whole orginal deaths of Barry and Phoenix I was just a little kid in the 80s but you can buy reprints and educate yourself on the classic Wolfman, Perez, Kirby and Stan Lee stories.

Reading the old ones I feel they would have ended better keeping the Flash and Jean Grey dead, but then again there's something weird about comic characters they are kinda immortal like the old Greek stories so when some one gets killed off the Gods grant them favors so they don't stay dead for too long

Bucky's ressurection was the best, it started a great story that resonated thru out the entire marvel universe, and transformed a small bit character into one of the most engaging heroes in the marvel universe.

Hal Jordan.

His return, and Johns' subsequent handling of the various GL titles, finally turned Green Lantern into the franchise it always had potential to be - and the upcoming movie is the result of that.

Does that Kyle kid ever turn up these days?

I don't know if it qualifies as "death&ressurection"but the Spiderman "The last hunt"storyline from some years back.
Kraven the hunter tags Spidey with a coma inducing toxin, buries him and assumes his place. The story was more concentrated on Kraven than Spidey but yeah, great story.
The thread continued in later issues when Parker now revived but disorientated finds himself locked in a mental asylum.Very well handled.

Personally, I think 99% of comic book deaths and resurrections just suck. Who didn't know that Superman would be back after the much hyped Death of storyline 17 or 18 years ago? Or that Batman would be back? Captain America? Etc etc. Does anyone think that the Jason Todd storyline is made better by his return from the dead? Or was the fact that Bruce Wayne/ Batman's teenage ward died under his care and control too shocking for our little heads?

Personally, I think no superhero death will ever top the death of Captain Marvel, not least of all because they've managed never to cheapen it. Why? By letting him stay dead, for one thing!

So you missed the Return of Captain Marvel during the Civil War? Or you've read enough to know how it doesn't negate what happened in Starlins Classic book?

I'm still miffed by the death of Gennis-Vell.

Though Phylla-Vell is FINALLY getting interesting.

Jordan should have stayed dead, but Poochie needed to be put down so that a real guys guy like Guy could stand up and be accounted for.

Johns is too nice.

I was ranting on the dc message boards once about how Hal had a Psychotic break in Day of Judgement when he used his ring/magic to manifest the dead corps members he murdered in twilight to fight the big bad, Asmodel I think, (Neron?) it was clear to me that since he was talking to his ring constructs who he actually thought were inhabitted by the souls of his victims who then FORGAVE HIM for all his bloody muderings that his mind had fractured and he was talking to himself about wishfulfillment... Then Johns wandered into the conversation and said that there was no subtext, the Corps forgave him becuase they believed that deep down he was still a magnificent hero who deserved a second chance even after he cut their hands off leaving them to suck vacuum and bleed out in the absolute zero of space. Okay maybe those were not his exact words. and you can't bleed out if your blood has crystalized, but you get my point.

Johns is way to nice

There was a prophecy in Green lantern I read just before this rainbow war begun that Sinestro once was the greatest Freen Lanten of them all and would be so again.

Hopefully over Hal Jordans dead body.

^ I did miss it. DId they really bring him back? I knew there was a Captain Marvel who was his son but I never thought they'd bring the original back. It's that sort of storyline that makes me avoid modern comics.

^ Phew. My childhood has avoided being raped!

Remember at the end of Scroooged when THEBILLMURRAY is talking about how the chistmas spirit feels so good that you should want to keep it all year around?

I was trying to do the same with your raped childhood, because the longer you thought that it had been raped, the better you'd feel when you found out that your child hood was less if not not raped at all.

Okay, here it is....

Skrull Manchurian Candidate.

The poor bastard absolutely thought he was Mar-Vell, and he was pissed when he found out he wasn't and then decided that as long as his programming is haywire and the Marv-ell in him is stronger than his submerged real personality, then damn the skrull inside him, he was going to be the hero Mar-Vell and save the Earth and save the Universe as need be as Mar-vell would do it if he had come back form the dead.

Which is totally Phillip K Dick and that Total Recall movie they made from one of his books.

As I recall, Nitro and the others had recently escaped from the Raft, and were wanted fugitives--so legitimate targets for a take-down. I doubt a S.W.A.T. team would have done better; it wasn't a question of legality, but disparate power-levels.

It was a question of Editorial needing a scapegoat to kick off the whole CW mess, and the Warriors were elected because Joe didn't respect them. Bringing back Nita is only a downpayment on what Marvel owes to Warrirors fans! (and yes, I too was nearly moved to tears when they did it)

Back on topic, no one's mentioned Return of Superman yet?

The return of the SuperMEN was awesome.

(The current pages of Boostergold is set during the destruction of Coast City. Booster is at odds with another timetraveller who is trying to save the 8 million souls who li8ved in Hal Jordans hometown. Continuity must be preserved. His SISTER! That was a shocker really. Who the frell was calling out for the return of Michelle Gold?)

Kal-El arriving late to that clusterfuck in a black suit with no powers was just a nonevent.

The only good thing about the return of Jason Todd, was that he was shagging the demon's daughter Talia as they inscestuously played house and he accumulated a terrorist powerbase.

Oh, risk away... :)

Connor is back.

Stupid Superboy.

The awesome stupidity of Wondergirl and Robin making out and subsequently hammered by so much guilt for betraying a ghost really didn't play out well enough for me before she confessing to the Zombie Superboy who says "It's okay, it's not cheating if I'm dead."

Metrosexuality unbound!

There was a time that when a man died, that they buried his wive(s) alive with him. I weep for the milksoppy pansyarsedness of the modern world..

I never thought comics were so rapey.

It's ever since Sue Dibney.

Norman didn't help either, having his way with Gwen Stacey like that.

I really thought those kids just showing up would destroy him politically, it's not like they're doing anything else other that maturating into an early grave at almost Ocampa speed.

I don't think I read the first comics regaling the return of Norman Osborn. I'm guessing a lot of people wet themselves. Then brand New day seemed to bring harry back from the grave too with almost no celebration... Actually, it barely registered that he is supposed to be dead to me til just now.
