Greater than the Sum official description

^ Memory Beta lists it as a Nebula Class ship.

My theory why the Borg need Slipstream Drive:

With the destruction of the Transwarp Ability in Endgame because of the loss of the Transwarp Hub, the Einstein needs a way to return to the collective. They're unable to open a transwarp conduit so they need an alternative: a slipstream drive. It would be compatible with the Starfleet technology of the Einstein if they weren't able to fully assimilate it.

^ Memory Beta lists it as a Nebula Class ship.
On the theory that it's the same ship as the Nebula-class Einstein from the computer game Armada II. Which isn't a bad supposition, but also doesn't prevent the fiction from establishing something else. I imagine, though, that the text of Greater than the Sum has been finalized by now, given that it's only ten weeks or so until it starts appearing in bookstores.

^ I'm not saying that it's my theory. The poster above asked why the poster ahead of him thought it was Nebula Class. I posted that Memory Beta said it was because that is probably where a lot of people got it from.

Coincidentally in Armada II one of the missions requires recovering the Nebula Class USS Einstein from the Borg.

^^Just keep in mind that the ship was assimilated by the Borg some time before the novel begins. I didn't have a mental image of what it looked like before assimilation.

It is disappinting that the Luna class is losing ships right and left. I just hope that the Borg don't assimilate the slipstream cause then everyone will be in trouble.

Just do like you do with which actor plays an original character. Just picture whichever ship best fits your aesthetic sensibilities.

Well, yeah, but the Constitution-class was about 40 years old when they started dropping like flies. The Luna-class was launched, what, last week? They're going down faster than the Galaxies did.

The galaxy is a lot more dangerous now than it was 100 years ago. Besides, it just means that they'll just have to build more, and build them better. Anyway, do we know if they did a second batch of Connies or was it just the first twelve?

The solar system has plenty more moons.

well, that depends on your source. Franz Joseph''s Technical Manual lists hundreds of the bleeders in about 6 sub-classes, whilst the Okuda Encyclopaedia lists about 20 including a bunch with only the flimsiest of evidence or rational for, whilst in my fan-fic I went with about 14, the original 12 plus 2 more to replace the Constellation and the Defiant.

my list runs:
Constitution
Enterprise
Constellation*
Potemkin
Hood
Excalibur
Lexington
Exeter
Endaevour
Yamato
Dedalo
Defiant*
Shenzhou**
Yorktown** '

*destroyed
** replaces destroyed vessels.
' Yorktown later renamed Enterprise-A

I'm going with canon. There were twelve Connies originally. That isn't to say more weren't constructed, but canonically there have only been twelve. As for the Lunas, the Luna was almost completely destroyed through an accident; the Charon was destroyed in the BQ; and the Rhea is destroyed is GTTS. That still leaves nine or ten if they rebuild the Luna to explore the galaxy.

In what episode was it established that there were only twelve original Constitutions?
