Great Moments in TrekBBS History!

TEH BABA.

Nobody understood what he posted, not even - most likely - himself. But his bizarre, nonsensical comments made some of us laugh and he inspired J. Allen to write a very entertaining little song about him.

Also: The Great Crash and Purge of 2002.

I just remembered when we first got those gender symbols. It was funny how some of us were surprised with certain posters because many of us thought they were the opposite sex/gender.

Like Goji, for example

Of course, the avatar or the username was to blame most of the time.

Has anyone mentioned the sombrero fad? I never gave it up though if someone would give the cat a red fez that would change.

The Sombreros never went away. They just quietly hid in the shade of an even larger hat.

Everyone assumed I was male at first.

I had a few replies addressing me a female because of the "Nerys". More disappointing is they don't understand Bajor naming customs!!!!:scream:

JKTim and cardinal biggles pranking the TOS Movie forum with their great Star Trek Nemesis re-watch and review.

I'm trying to remember what prompted that. I remember the thread and I remember one of us lost a bet, but beyond that I'm lost.

Fuck, I'm old.
There was a bet involved? I thought we just did it for the lulz.

But yeah, that was awesome. And I managed to keep it up for a whole week. Does anyone still have that thread? I sadly neglected to save it.

Isn't Nerys Colonel Kira's first name??? So I'm assuming you're female.

As Miss Chicken no-one has ever had doubt about whether i was female or not but during my first three months on the board I used another account under the name of Sheliak and most people thought I was male.

Now I follow what Nerys Myk was saying.

In Bajoran tradition, the family name or last name preceded the person's given name, i.e., Kira Nerys. If humans had the same format, we would say "Temple Shirley" instead of Shirley Temple.

I suppose the gender confusion arises from the word Nerys, which was Colonel Kira's first name.

'Humans' do. Just not in the part of the world you live in. In China, for example, family name always comes first. There are quite a lot of Chinese humans. ;)

Any time da Woim warned anyone / told anyone off. There was one rather...err...memorable (for all the wrong reasons) thread where he smacked down a number of posters; said smackdown was a thing of TBBS beauty. He had such a way with words.
If you're referring to the same one I was, I found it...

That's the one. Brilliance. :bolian:

I'd really, really like to know what happened to him. Hope he's okay. :(
Me too. I had one brief contact with him after he disappeared, and then never heard from him again. He was awesome.

I remember him posting a thread in Voy where he mentioned he'd been in hospital for some time after being mugged and beaten up. The fact he vanished completely after posting something like that was...worrying. :(

Not that it really fits the theme of the thread but there are a few other posters who just disappeared entirely that I'd really like to know are okay. That, of course, is one of the problems with the 'net being the only point of contact one has with other posters; when they're gone, you have no way of knowing why. You can only hope it's just that they've moved on in life and nothing more...unpleasant.
