-- it's too of the moment, too fast). Bulletin boards and forums let people discuss issues. The others, not so much .
Wow, y'all are making me feel like a newbie! This is the only "great moment" mentioned that I recognize:
My personal -- and serious -- great moment here is how amazing folks were when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, even though I was relatively new and had never posted much. Several threads with hundreds of posts -- some serious, some silly, all supportive!
As for Facebook, it's what you make of it. I'm in two groups that have as detailed, extended conversations as any here.

I keep forgetting that the standards for newbie status are a bit different here than most places!
