Indy 5. They won't stop chewing thru the decades till they hit Indy XII: Electric Boogaloo.

Do you think they should keep slogging forward thru the decades or is it finally time for a (gasp) reboot of the whole thing back to, say, the Roaring 20s?

I had a great time with Indy IV, so I say bring it on.. but let's not let THAT much time pass..

I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot, but I say that with caution. I would LOVE to see Sean Patrick Flannery return to the role, but I really can't see another actor do it. Star Trek is one thing. You're working with an ensemble cast. When dealing with a legendary, solitary figure like Indy, I can't see just anybody taking the whip.

Indy is Harrison Ford's character. So is Han Solo. No one is going to be dumb enough to take either role. Every actor that has a sense would refuse. Why do you think they had Indy take the hat from Mutt when he was about to put it on? I think there would have been a much HUGER fan outcry from fans if he did. Even bigger than the fridge. I bet there was a scene shot like that, but was rejected.

As for Indy 5. Where do you go from aliens? My idea, the nether world. Searching for an artifact leads Indy to the afterlife. Literally. Indy's dad is found, and they go on an adventure in from the depths of Hades to the mystical Avalon hunting for a Greek treasure.

hey, there's always Ben Affleck...he's not too proud to take Harrison Ford's sloppy seconds.

Indy 4 didn't need to go so far by having aliens in it. It didn't make people think "Now THIS is worth coming back after 19 years for!.
I say have him looking for the Spear of Destiny. Also, go to more than one foreign country, unlike Indy 4.

I also hope that we all got our Indiana Jones and the Get Off My Lawn or Indiana Jones and the Search for Geritol kind of jokes out of our system with Indy 4. I never heard one that was funny.

Pre-Indy IV, I always thought they should go the Godfather Part II route and have a young and old Indy storyline running parallel.

Mmm, that could work. Or even an old Indy and Young Henry, to make it even more Godfather-like?

Somewhat to my surprise I thought Ford was the best thing about the last movie but the movie itself was a huge disappointment. Unless I was sure that a 5th one would be a return to form, I'd rather the character was pensioned off.

I continue to say Indy 4 was a good addition to the series. Sorry but regardless of ones religous views, if you take that out and can go with "magic boxes of fire", electrically charged stones with heart ripping priests and "healing/life giving cups of bronze" then aliens really aren't that much a stretch. Could it have been toned down a tad, sure I suppose. Sorry to rain on the haters parade.

I do want Indy 5 now though.
Spear of Destiny is a logical choice but like the Shankara Stones I'm in favor of any religious artifact or even mystical cultural relic.

If I get Indy 5 and Ghostbusters 3 in the same summer I'd be overwhelmingly excited!

^ The nature of the McGuffin/ artifact had nothing to do with my dislike of KOTCS. I just thought it ran out of steam half way through and was dull and uninvolving. It felt more like someone trying to copy an Indy movie than a proper official Dr Jones movie. But different strokes for different folks.

How about setting Indy 5 in the present day? Indy himself would probably have passed on, but assuming Mutt had children of his own, there's probably a Jones descendant still around (Mutt's son, for example).

I'm probably alone in this on this board, but I liked Shia LaBeouf in Indy 4 and I enjoyed his character, and I wouldn't mind seeing a Mutt Williams movie instead of Indy 5.

Temple Of Doom's credits say 1935, while Raiders says 1936 (Crusade is in 38, two years after Raiders and Crystal Skull is 57, I think).

It sort of works story-wise too, Indy is sort of a mercenary in TOD ("Fortune and glory") as oppossed to the other three films.

Interestingly Harrison has been against reprising Han Solo (Who at this point in the novel continuity, is about as old if not older than Ford himself!) because he thinks Han was not a deep character. However I think Solo was actually a bit more dimensional and grew over the course of the OT more than Indy did over the course of the four films.

I do kind of like the prequel idea, they can lose the baggage of Mutt & Marion and have Indy be single again. It'd be cool to have Sean Connery back in some role though (The story could take place around the time of the character's death), although he's retired from acting :( Also it would've been cool to have Sallah back.
