Gorn reimagined

Grup

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
It's been a looong time since my last visit. I was over at IMDB reading about villain possibilities for the new movie. I got to wondering if any of the more enthusiastic trekkers have reimagined the Gorn?

Can somebody direct me a link on this site if somebody has?

Thanks.:techman:

Unless they were on "Enterprise"..

then it's just a cartoon...

^Me either. It looks like the Gorn just got punched real hard in the nose. That's a cool take on the Salt Vampire, though.

Not a Gorn in my eyes, but that '09 design would make an interesting "high fantasy" Orc type creature.

Of the two presented so far, the "Enterprise" version is certainly my preferred. If they had just given it the segmented eyes I could "overlook" the rest of the deviations.

Sincerely,

Bill

Don't get me wrong. I prefer Wah Chang's design best as well. As you can see, I'm trying to "frankenstein" an as "screen accurate" version as I can. But given the choices so far presented as a "reimagined" Gorn, the "Enterprise" design is a no brainer.

Sincerely,

Bill

Wah Chang, all the way. Sure, it could be done better now, more realistically, especially with the expected budget of a feature film, but even though the original was obviously a man in a suit, it looked alien, as a result - at least enough to let one's imagination carry it over the line. My biggest issue with the ENT 'Gorn' is that, aside from the really crappy modeling, animation and compositing, it looked more like they were trying to put a raptor in Gorn makeup - knd of like putting Isis in a little Starfleet shirt and calling her "M'Ress."

Any modern Gorn should, IMHO, have the same sort of physiology and carriage as the original - a slow, bulky, powerful humanoid with reptilian features.

And crystal eyes! I just watched "Arena" with my five year old for the first time and she couldn't get over the crystal eyes! :techman:

I always assumed they were compound eyes, like those of insects. But then somebody around here suggested they might be the future equivalent of sunglasses?
I kinda like that Idea; anyway too bad the remastered Gorn blinked -cool as it was to see- it kinda clashed with my pet theories.

That might have been me. Pulling a corny "retcon" to rationalize the differences between the classic Gorn and the one depicted in 'A Mirror Darkly", I jokingly suggested those iridescent surfaces might have been the Gorn equivalent to aviator shades.

But like many, I've held to the idea the Gorn took a different evolutionary path in regards to their optic senses. They are simply, as was originally intended, compound eyes like those of terrestrial houseflies.

They make it more "alien".

Sincerely,

Bill

Cryptic apparently had the same idea, albeit less cheekily. The compund eyes are available as "Spec Ops Lenses" in Star Trek Online, with the default Gorn eyes being like the ENT incarnation.
